SUSU Graduate Studies Gravitational Window into the Universe

On February 11, 2016 the American physics journal “Physical Review Letters” published a report about experimental detection of gravitational waves. One of the authors of this publication is a SUSU graduate Ruslan Vaulin, who majored in Applied Mathematics and Physics. The young scientist conducted his first research study under the supervision of Prof. Valery Beskachko.

The gravitational waves were detected on September 14, 2015 by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), where Ruslan Sergeevich works now. The existence of gravitational waves was predicted by Einstein 100 years ago and at that time it was obvious that their observance would be a challenging experimental task. In terms of scholarly importance this breakthrough comparable with the discovery of the Higgs boson is one of the main achievements of XXI c.

The Faculty of Physics of SUSU congratulates its graduate and his first scientific supervisor with this remarkable event and wishes them new achievements!
