Parade Gowns and Tears of Joy: SUSU Awards Degrees to 2017 Graduates

On Saturday, July 1st, degrees were awarded to graduates at one of the most prestigious universities of the Ural region and Russia. Thousands of young specialists received degrees on their completion of study at SUSU.

All of the students walked a long path towards this coveted document, and today, at the main student space of Chelyabinsk, before the eyes of their mentors and parents, they swore to be worthy citizens of their motherland, develop its potential, and, of course, to not forget the academic institution which became a great springboard for their professional growth. Chelyabinsk residents saw the happy smiles of the now “former” students, the tears of their parents who literally surrounded the main building from all sides, and performances by SUSU’s creative collectives over the course of an hour and a half.

The main summer student celebration was opened by participants of the dance theater Deep Vision and actors of the studio theater Mannequin. The artists presented the theme of the ceremony to the viewers – “The hashtag generation”. After this, SUSU rector, Aleksandr Shestakov greeted all of his wards, their parents, and their professors. He wished the graduates love of their chosen profession, confidence in their individual strength, career growth, success, and good luck.

Find application for the knowledge you received in university, be happy and successful, and don’t forget your university. All of you – economists, lawyers, psychologists, architects, journalists, chemists, and linguists – are on trend. You have received good education and now you can rightfully seek out good work and a high salary,” said the SUSU leader.

Honored guest of the celebration, senior partner of Avuar GK Aleksey Ovakimyan agreed with Aleksandr Shestakov’s words:

You have really made the right choice and received a quality, professional education. Graduates of this university can be seen in all branches of government, in the banking system, in culture, and in any other area. Consequentlyyou will be indemandBefore you are success and new achievementsLet your life consist of bright colorsGo forwards towards the goals you’ve set and don’t be afraid of anything!” said Ovakimyan, sending off the graduates.

According to longstanding tradition, the South Ural State University Graduate Oath of Allegiance was recited by students, whose success and achievements in science, culture, sport, and social activities were a large contribution to the development of their alma mater.

One special surprise was the unexpected proposal by one of SUSU’s best graduates, Nikita Dubrovskiy. Right after the oath, the former student of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science asked for the hand of his girlfriend, Elizaveta Yaskina, also a graduate. To the loud applause of the audience of thousands, the young lady said yes.

Afterwards, the long-awaited awarding of diplomas was completed.

In honor of the graduates, hundreds of balloons were released into the air – a symbol of a bright life and the fast-ascending heights of new beginnings. The celebration traditionally ends with the procession of the celebrants in their gowns and graduation caps across the campus.

As a reminder, while the graduates are celebrating the completion of their education, the admissions campaign is still ongoing at SUSU. The university is expecting no less than 15 thousand applicants.
