The First International Master's Students from Iraq Defended Theses at the Department of Automated Manufacturing Engineering

Thesis defense for master's students in the Quality Control in Engineering and Manufacturing Systems program was held on June 5th and 6th 2017 at the Department of Automated Manufacturing Engineering.

In their defense, the master's students demonstrated confident knowledge and the high level of completion of their work. The State Attestation Committee, consisting of teachers and professors of the department and heads of companies and departments, believed that fourteen of the eighteen master's students deserve top marks.

It is worth noting that among the defending were two master's students from Iraq:

Mahmood Al Aqeeli with the topic “Development of Programming Module for the Automated Selection of an Abrasive Instrument in the Operation of Cylindrical Grinding” (scientific adviser – associate professor of the department, candidate of technical sciences Shipulin L.V.);

Al-Taie Lugain Hussein with the topic “Improving the quality of workpiece surfaces when machining on CNC milling machines” (scientific adviser - Professor of the Department, Doctor of Technical Sciences Shchurov I.A.)

This is how the students themselves described their feelings:

“I found out about South Ural State University on the site of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research of Iran. The two years of life in Chelyabinsk and study at SUSU were full of challenges for me, I got to know new technologies, new methods of teaching, and, of course, a new language. Russian is rich and difficult, but very interesting. Throughout my education I got to know the different kinds of engineering programs, measurement instruments and technologies, the history of manufacturing, programming languages, and much more, and   I also got to know many great people. The teaching staff, administration, and students were always kind and ready to help with anything, answer any questions – we were like family. Of course, my scientific adviser supported me and directed me in the completion of my master’s thesis in Russian. In the future, I hope to receive my PhD,” says Mahmood Al Aqeeli.

“I came to the university having written them by e-mail with help from my friends. I was very interested in the organization of the academic process and teaching style at SUSU. The professors actively work with students, especially international students, and many of them speak English fluently, which makes studying much easier for international students. Education does have some difficulties as well, 6 day weeks and the difficulty of Russian language. Throughout my education at SUSU in the Department of Automated Manufacturing Engineering I received the following knowledge: various engineering programs (Mathcad, SolidWorks, ADEM, NX, and more); methods of measuring on modern coordinate-measuring machines; the history of engineering and its importance in technical education; automated manufacturing and technological processes; engineering analysis and finite-element modeling; and techniques for creating parts on multi-purpose CNC lathes,” adds Lugain Hussein Al-Taie.

We wish all of our graduates future creative and professional success!

Leonid Shipulin
