Presentation of the Center of Computer Engineering Took Place at SUSU

On September 20 at SUSU, the Center of Computer Engineering was presented to guests and employees of the university.

Within the presentation, the research-to-practice conference “Modern digital technology in Industry 4.0: trends and challenges” was held. Rector of the university Alexander Shestakov, Director General of the Center for Project Management in Industry Vladimir Pastukhov, Vice-President of the Siemens PLM Software in Russia and the CIS Viktor Bespalov, and representatives of the Government of the Chelyabinsk region Konstantin ZakharovVasiliy Kokoryukin and other specialists took part in the conference.

“The meeting that is taking place today – is the beginning of a long path which is very important for our university and for development of industry of the Big Urals and the Russian federation. We have passed the road from the Polytechnic Institute which operated under conditions of the war time up to the international scientific center. The new challenge is digital economy, and we are ready for it,” noted in his welcoming speech the Rector of SUSU Alexander Shestakov.

He reminded that there are 10 multi-disciplinary higher schools and institutes operating at the university, research centers in the field of empiric mechanical engineering, nanotechnology and composite materials are created; and the university’s supercomputer is in the top-three of the best supercomputers of Russian universities.

The main topic of the conference’s plenary session was modern trends and new technology in the Industry 4.0.

Director General of the Siemens PLM Software in Russia and the CIS Viktor Bespalov noted the high level of digital technology’s development at SUSU and wished success to the team of the new Center of Computer Engineering. Creation of the laboratory for digital engineering technology within the CCE became possible thanks to close collaboration with the Siemens Company, and now the Center will provide engineering services to the largest industrial enterprises of the region.

Director of the Siemens PLM Software representative office in the Urals Vyacheslav Isaev told about how the world around us has changed during the last seven years. Once popular operational system Symbian in Nokia cell phones was replaced by devices which operate on Android and iOS platforms. And generic production of automobiles was replaced by customized car assembling. Without exaggeration, the analogous revolutionary transformations take place in all industrial branches.

Chief Constructor of digital design systems of the KAMAZ PAO Alexey Purtov told us about modern design systems, and Director General of the Advanced Engineering OOO Dmitriy Maltsev carried out a presentation of multilateral cooperation of his enterprise, the Center of Computer Engineering and Siemens PLM Software.

Presentation of the Center of Computer Engineering and a celebratory opening ceremony for the laboratory for for digital engineering technology started with cutting a ribbon by Alexander Shestakov, Viktor Bespalov, and the First Deputy Governor of the Chelyabinsk region Evegeniy Redin.

“Today we are observers of a special event. In fact, the Center created on the grounds of South Ural State University will have applied significance for both science and business – the business oriented on creating up-to-date models, new engineering products. In this Center a system for additional education for students will be developed. I am sure that it will have a bright and beautiful future. We will be placed in high positions at the national level,” noted Evgeniy Redin.

The most scientific subdivision of the Center of Computer Engineering is the department for simulation and calculation. It is exactly here that the generation point for new engineering solutions is located. In fact, this is a specific customer for the engineering department, which afterwards will bring to life bold engineering ideas. The subdivision is equipped with all the line of software products that nowadays are presented at the market. The key software is represented by the partner company Siemens. The team of employees consists of graduates of the SUSU Department of Applied Mechanics. In total, there are 32 people working at the CCE, but the whole university – its scientific laboratories, research centers and engineering staff - is involved in the work.

Following the event, panel discussions in which all who wanted could take part were held.

Within the presentation, the university’s guests got acquainted with scientific laboratories and centers. The PRI Test Mechanical Engineering, REC of Experimental Mechanics, Laboratory of Physical Modelling of Thermomechanical Processes, REC of Nanotechnology and Laboratory for Supercomputer Modeling opened their doors for the guests. Seeing resources and science-and-research venues left no professionals in engineering to be indifferent. “The event is prepared very all-inclusively; we have seen a big number of laboratory bases. The level of research is amazing from both academic and production-and-technology point of view,” shares Deputy Director of Information Technologic Support at the Ural Engineering Technology Center Vladimir Dubinin.
