Information Day for International Students Held at SUSU

 

On October 25 of 2017, in the conference hall of South Ural State University’s Sigma academic building, the annual information day was held in three languages: Arabic, Chinese and English. The event was organizedspecially for international students and postgraduates of visa countries. The meeting was held by Head of the International Affairs Division Olga Yaroshenko.

Within the Information Day, international students learned about work of the Center for Sociocultural Adaptation about which they were told by Head of the Center Dina Valeeva.

“In order to make it easier for international students to adapt to living in Russia and studying at a Russian university, the Center for Sociocultural Adaptation was created at SUSU in 2016, and it still operates. Within the Center, there is a Speaking Club, there are excursions, meetings and events; we also implement the CreaTEAvity project (it includes dancing, playing the guitar, drawing, origami and other creative activities),” commented Dina Maratovna.

Aside from representatives of the Center for Sociocultural Adaptation, Head of the Foreign Students Support Department Ekaterina Yurovskaya and specialist Valeriya Chachina also took part in the event. Employees of the International Affairs Division informed students about what is Foreign Students Association and what should be done to join in, what events are soon to be organized for international students, what holidays exist in Russia and how they are to be celebrated in this academic year.

A very important moment was providing students with up-to-date information about migration legislation directly by Head of the Department of Migration Service for Foreign Citizens Marina Davydova and officer of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior of the Russian Federation in the Chelyabinsk region, Deputy Head of the Department of Immigration Control of the Main Directorate for Migration, lieutenant colonel of the police Maxim Dronov. Students were told about regulations of stay and employment, and responsibility for breaking migration legislation.

Overall, more than 200 people from Iraq, Yemen, Egypt, China, Congo, Sri-Lanka, Indonesia, Nigeria, Turkmenistan and other countries took part in the event.

Another Information Day in which all willing international students can participate is to be held in November.
