Methodological workshop on Modern Approaches to Teaching Foreign Languages held at SUSU

 

On November 9 of 2017, a methodological workshop on the topic of Modern Approaches to Teaching Foreign Languages was held at SUSU, organized by the SUSU Department of Foreign Languages together with South Ural Examination Center Autonomous Noncommercial Educational Organization of Additional Education “English Club” under support of the representatives of Cambridge English Language Assessment (Moscow). The lector was English language teacher of higher qualification category, senior expert of the regional subject-matter commission for assessing comprehensive answers of the EGE in foreign languages, speaking examiner of Cambridge English exams, counselor of the Cambridge English Language Assessment in Russia, Angelika Vladyko.

Questions considered at the seminar possessed profound methodological character, and offered to think about specificity of teaching students of the 21st century. The lecturer managed to organize efficient cooperation of all participants while completing practical tasks.

“From the one hand, we as teachers learned a lot of new things and revised our procedural practices, but from the other hand, we put ourselves in students’ shoes by being involved in foreign-language communication, which undoubtedly favors to our better understanding of teaching and educational process,” comments Irina Kolegova, coordinator of the project for implementing a system of advanced language training for bachelor’s studies (supervisor of the project is Elena Yaroslavova).

The seminar was a continuation of regularly held events targeted at advanced vocational training of the Department of Foreign Languages’ employees who conduct training of students for passing IELTS exam, teach experimental or elite student groups by the educational model based on the international CEFR standard (Common European Framework of Reference.

“As the sphere of foreign language teaching is one of the most rapidly developing spheres, open for new educational technologies, the main purpose of organizing vocational training of teachers of advanced language training is intended in forming such team of teachers, each member of which is open for changes and novelties, and is also capable to contribute for prioritized development of the Department,” notes Irina Stavtseva who coordinates the module of vocational enhancement for teachers of the project for implementing a system of advanced language training for bachelor’s studies (supervisor of the project is Elena Yaroslavova).

Participants of the workshop were given Certificates of the Cambridge English Language Assessment.
