A Series of Lectures by Scientist From the USA Artem Masunov Finished at SUSU

 

On November 28, a series of lectures by Professor from the University of Central Florida, Artem Masunov, finished at South Ural State University.

One of the lectures was dedicated to computational engineering of nanostructured biomaterials. The Professor told about atomistic multi-scale modeling of peptide structures with the use of molecular dynamics based on the Newton equations. Artem Eduardovich provided examples of aggregation and its influencing factors, and also noted that atomistic modeling is a powerful tool for studying molecular processes which control aggregation of vitally important molecules.

Artem Masuniv is the Head of the SUSU International Research Laboratory for Multi-scale Modeling of Polyfunctional Compounds. The sphere of the Laboratory’s research is connected with development and enhancement of efficiency of optically active materials on the basis of crystal engineering and multi-scale modeling of properties, targeted design, and modification of compound structures using the strategy of “Extended structural model – substance – enhanced properties of the material”. Therefore, such lectures are very important and useful for students-chemists and for employees of the Faculty of Chemistry.

“We highly estimate this event. It allows making huge steps in attracting our students, postgraduates and young scientists to mastering various scales and newest methods in modeling of structure and properties of compounds with useful properties. We as theorists are mostly working with calculations and forecasting of a substance’s properties, which is necessary in order to make the way of developing functional materials to be more achievable. Our communication with Professor Masunov consists of two important parts: lectures on the theory and subsequent discussion of the considered scientific issues in the Laboratory, where our students and employees can discuss and highlight specific problems and analyze current tasks by using computers. Such visits are a good involvement which allows implementing a combining of theory and practice. Without such involvement, without discussions and arguments, exchange of experience and emotions, it is unreal to move forward in solving difficult problems. Communication of scientists on the ground of the university is necessary for successful conducting of research activity,” said Professor of the SUSU Department of Theoretical and Applied Chemistry, Director of the Laboratory of Multi-scale Modeling of Multi-component Materials of the Nanotechnology REC, Ekaterina Bartashevich.
