December 1 is the 60th anniversary of the SUSU School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Today the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science includes 10 departments which perform training of bachelors, specialists, masters and postgraduates in the fields of instrument engineering and automated control, radio electronics and computer science.
Graduate of the Instrumentation Engineering Faculty, Sergey Dubrovin graduated the Department of Control Systems with honors. Today Sergey Valeryevich is the Head of the AO PG Metran Global Engineering Center’s Department of Electronics for Pressure Sensors. The graduate told us about his student years.
– Why did you decide to get enrolled to SUSU?
− I couldn’t decide between two areas of training: computer security or instrument engineering. In the end I chose the SUSU Instrumentation Engineering Faculty. I was ready to get submerged in the world of mathematics and programming while studying on the specialty of Computer Security, but I wasn’t ready to dedicate my entire life to this.
– Please tell us about your student life.
− Sometimes, during the study, I had to overcome some difficulties, but now, after several years, it seems that everything had been achievable. The topic of my diploma thesis was related with 1C programming – the creation of a database for enhancing work of the enterprise at which I was working at that moment. Aside from the obvious goal to get the diploma, it was also a good opportunity to prove myself at the enterprise and really improve the processes that took place there.
– What are the most memorable moments of your student years?
− Most of all I remember the summer exam period at the first year of study. Back then, I came to take the exams in physics and mathematics with complete assurance that I can do everything, but I ended up with the ‘satisfactory’ marks. The shock from this failure brought me back to the ‘reality’. After that case, I tried avoid similar mistakes, studied well and graduated the university with honors.
– Please tell us about your career at the PG Metran.
− After graduating the university I worked in another sphere. I found a vacancy and decided to try myself in PG Metran. I started working in the supply service as a supply engineer, then I became Head of the Department, and only after that I transferred to the Engineering Center. Working here is very comfortable, because the people I meet here have similar to mine way of thinking, education, interests and worries.
– What would you like to wish to the Faculty on the occasion of its 60th anniversary?
− I would like to say that I am proud of having become a part of the big history, and I would like to see the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science as a leader of development of the university and Chelyabinsk. I would like to wish students who are now studying at the School not to be afraid of new things and be sure that the knowledge they obtain will become a good background for a successful career.
