SUSU Scientists Created a New Sorbent for Environment Protection

Scientists from SUSU, who are working on development of materials for purification of water and air at industrial enterprises, created a unique substance for environment protection.

Specialists from South Ural State University are working on a project entitled “Synthesis of mesoporous materials on the basis of transition metals” aimed at creating new catalysts and sorbents. One of the authors of this program, master’s degree student of the university Dmitry Tolstoguzov pointed out the advantage of the new material and told about methods of its application.

According to the expert, they are studying the processes of catalysts’ formation out of iron, nickel and cuprum which in the future could be used in industrial aggregates or plants for treatment of wastes, and due to their ability to absorb harmful substances out of the environment they could diminish harmful effect of such substances on the ecology. Recently, they managed to obtain the material with the use of electric-chemical method. In the future, the specialists are planning on finding optimal ways for producing mesoporous materials and analyze their properties, which will help determining efficiency of their application for protection of the nature.
