SUSU Students Took Part in Magnitogorsk Rolling Practice 2018 Conference

June 5th through 8th, the 3rd International Youth Science-to-Practice Conference Magnitogorsk Rolling Practice 2018 (Innovative processes of metal treatment under pressure: fundamental issues of the link between science and manufacture) was held under financial support of Federal State State-Financed Institution “Russian Foundation for Basic Research”.

The Conference was dedicated to experience exchange in the global sphere of metal treatment under pressure, which included the full range of issues starting with forecasting modelling and preliminary laboratory testing and up to industrial introduction of innovative competitive technology.

This year’s Conference brought together young researchers, students, postgraduates – representatives of well-known universities from various parts of Russia and near abroad, among whom were SUSU students who presented their reports.

Format of the Conference was targeted at forming new and development of existing research areas in the sphere of metal treatment under pressure, as well as at expanding the possibility to unite results of theoretical research and practical tasks in completed research-and-development initiatives and engineering projects. Experience of the previously held Magnitogorsk Rolling Practice conferences showed that the chosen format more than once led to foundation of new scientific teams of young scientists from different countries of the world.

On June 7, results of the forum were summarized. One of the winners in the nomination of “The best practical application” was SUSU student of the Department of Machines and Processes of Plastic Metal Working, Kirill Torgonin, with his project entitled “Simulation of plastic working operation when producing built-up steel elements of piping system”. Second Degree Certificate was given to a student of the SUSU Department of Machines and Processes of Plastic Metal Working, Sergei Strugov, for his project entitled “Developing the technology of low waste straight hot die forging of weld neck flanges on the basis of combined deformation ‘expansion-extrusion’ pattern”, who yielded the precedence to a Doctorate student of SibSIU, Aleksandr Umaskiy.

Authors of the most interesting reports received offers to publish their articles in journals indexed in the system of Scopus, RSCI, and in the journal “Vestnik of MSTU named after G.I. Nosov”, the per-reviewed publication of the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles. One of such authors is Sergei Faizov, a student of the Department of Machines and Processes of Plastic Metal Working, who presented his report on creation of training equipment for colleges and universities. This project is implemented in the framework of cooperation between the Department of Mechatronics and Automation, the Department of Machines and Processes of Plastic Metal Working, and Research and Development Institute of Training Equipment and Technology. The master’s student presented his project of a three-stage drawing mill, which was elaborated and created at SUSU.

“The Conference is intended for young researchers, but postgraduates and Candidates of Sciences participated as well. In turn, SUSU at this Conference was represented by Master’s degree students. At the Conference, they demonstrated high level of training and achieved good results,” says Head of the Department of Machines and Processes of Plastic Metal Working, Liudmila Radionova.

As a reminder, the feature of the Conference is that, first of all, it is held specifically for young people, for young researchers of Russia and near-abroad, who carry out research in the sphere of metal treatment under pressure. Second of all, operation of each of four sections inclines for work of a moderator and a team of jury including respectful scientists in the sphere of metal treatment under pressure, who listen to reports and compile a ranking of participants determining the winners and prize holders. In third, a benefit is provided: winners receive monetary prizes and get invited to publish their articles in editions indexed in Scopus research system. Prize holders will be able to publish their materials in such journals of the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles as “Vestnik of MSTU” and editions of the MSTU named after G.I. Nosov.
