Trade Union Committee of SUSU Provides Unlimited Possibilities for Students’ Self-Fulfillment

South Ural State University aspires to provide maximally comfortable conditions for all students. Each student can come to the university’s Trade Union Committee to get assistance in practically any matter, from getting a scholarship and up to employment.

Assistance to students

One of the objectives of SUSU’s Trade Union Committee is to provide compliance with rights and interests of students, enlisted in legislation of the Russian Federation. Such rights and interests include obtainment of academic and social scholarships, as well as various benefits. Employees of the Trade Union Committee help students in assembling and filling in the necessary documents, and provide consultations regarding these issues.

“SUSU’s Trade Union Committee is a united informational service where students can get answers to practically any question, or get directed to a place where he or she can obtain detailed information. We try to explain students, what are the reasons for obtaining an academic scholarship as well as who can count on receiving a social scholarship. Besides, students address us with the issues regarding obtainment of certain benefits and bonuses. This includes free transportation tickets, meal tickets, etc. Also, in Trade Union Committee students can learn about how to receive financial aid, which is paid out once a calendar year. It can be received by students studying on state-funded basis in full-time mode of study and are related to a certain category,” noted Deputy Chairman of the Trade Union Committee, Gennadiy Budanov.

SUSU has the Accommodation for Students service. Specialists of the Trade Union Committee help all who wants to find comfortable apartments with affordable price, taking into account their preferences. Advantage of this service is the fact that the university works with its own database of homeowners, and therefore, students don’t have to pay for realtors’ services.

Students can also address the Trade Union Committee for legal support:

“Despite the fact that this is not our specialty, we nevertheless work with regulatory documentation and often consult students on various legal issues. We closely cooperate with the Chelyabinsk regional organization of the Education and Science Employees’ Union of the Russian Federation, and the All-Russian Trade Union Committee for Education; we have a separate students’ coordinator council of the Ural Federal District. Therefore, due to our own experience and the experience of our colleagues, we always answer any questions of students.”

Also, the Trade Union Committee provides information about job positions that can be interesting to students. Employment listings get posted on a special page in SUSU Online mobile application. Ex-activists of the Trade Union Committee, who got promoted to top-managers of various companies, became HR specialists or started their own businesses, also provide assistance with students’ employment. Employers often address directly to the university, in order to recruit SUSU graduates for working in their companies.

Special possibilities for members of the Trade Union Committee

Membership in the SUSU Trade Union Committee provides students with special possibilities and benefits due to the university’s partnership with various organizations. In particular, each member of the Trade Union Committee can receive a 25% discount within the SKS Bonus program sponsored by Russian Railways Company, when traveling in a compartment coach. Also, students can receive free SIM cards with a special Hype students’ call charge rate.

SUSU’s Trade Union Committee cooperates with other commercial companies, including cinema theatres, a trampoline park, a hostel, etc. By the end of 2018, contracts are planned to be signed with more than 20 companies, whose services will become available for students at a reduced cost. All information about discounts and benefits for members of the Trade Union Committee will be posted in the SUSU Online application.

Culture-into-masses and sport-and-recreation work

Together with the SUSU Physical Education and Sports Club, Art Center and other subdivisions of the university, Trade Union Committee carries out massive cultural and sport-and-recreation work. Such events as matriculation, Miss SUSU and Mister SUSU contests have already been highly praised at the city and regional level. The SUSU’s Best Representatives project unites all activities of the university, in which the best students, master’s degree students and postgraduates get evaluated by their research, artistic and sport activities.

Under support of the Trade Union Committee, SUSU students organize large city and regional events:

“Recently, our university took part in a contest of grants organized by Rosmolodezh, and obtained a grant to hold All-Russian Tournament of Russia’s Sport Clubs, entitled ‘The Ural Mountains’. I think that this is a big honor when the federal agency, which sponsors and controls organization of all-Russian events, trusts our students to organize a tournament of such scale.”

Recreation programs are very popular among SUSU students. In summer, the Olimp Students’ Recreation Camp operates; this year it got visited by about 750 students. Each session is dedicated to some theme. The university’s public organizations took part in the first session; students’ councils of the university’s schools and institutes as well as various team of the university participated in the second session. The third session was dedicated to creativity, the forth one – to sports. During winter break, SUSU students make trips to Zolotoy Plyazh (Golden Beach) Club and Hotel, and to the Sunny Valley Ski Resort.

Students have the possibility to complete recreation programs during the academic year as well, in a health care center located in Chelyabinsk’s north-western district. Students get provided with accommodation, three-time meals and treatment procedures. At that, students attend classes as usual.

Also, students can rent skiing and snowboarding equipment at a reduced cost within the Katalitsa project, which functions during the mountain skiing season, from November till April. Moreover, they have the opportunity to complete basic training with a sport instructor within the Novichok (Rookie) program.

Young Leader School

SUSU’s Trade Union Committee, together with the Extracurricular Activities Department, the TOP-500 Advisory Center, and the United Student Council for more than 10 years have been implementing a massive youth project, targeted at development of students’ organizational skills, - the Young Leader School.

“In the course of the project, students develop their leadership and organizational skills, learn how to form and supervise a working group. This is important, because many companies prefer recruiting university students who have already mastered a wide range of competencies during their study,” said the Deputy Chairman of SUSU’s Trade Union Committee. “Members of the Young Leader School become good executives and top managers.”

The Young Leader School includes five general stages. At the first stage, students attend lectures and then choose area of their further activity within the project. Classes at the further stages are held in the form of trainings. Students elaborate projects and solve specific problems for their implementation.

The university provides students with the opportunity to get fully engaged into their project during their free time. For example, the TOP-100 bonus level, during which the most active and determined members of the YLS get selected, is traditionally held within the winter recreation of students; last year, the event was held at the Sunny Valley Ski Resort.

Many projects of the Young Leader School members evolved into individual structures of the university. This is how the University’s Club of Funny and Inventive People (KVN), the Culture and Mass Commission, the Muzkom, the SUSU Volunteering Center, and the Association of International Students had been created.
