Students from China Visited Ilmen Nature Reserve

Students of Huanghe Professional Hydroengineering University (China) successfully completed the courses of the Russian language at the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language of ILIC. They celebrated their successful admission to the university in the city of Miass.

Center for Sociocultural Adaptation organized an excursion with an extensive program:  the students visited Ilmen State Nature Reserve named after V.I. Lenin and Museum of Pelmeni which is the only in the country, as well as had a wonderful rest on the shores of Lake Turgoyak.

The student Zheng Qi shared his impressions on the trip:

“I saw a lot of strange and beautiful rocks at the Museum of Ilmen Nature Reserve. Some of them resembled meat while the others resembled potato chips or ice-cream. We saw the animals inhabiting Russia and they looked lifelike. At this museum, we got acquainted with the Russian geological culture, after that we visited the House of Merchant Smirnov.  There were a restaurant and folk crafts of the XIX century. But making the self-made pelmeni was the most interesting. It was for the first time when we made the Russian pelmeni under the control of the chief cook and then we ate them.”

Zheng Qi was also impressed by Lake Turgoyak.

“The water was so clear and they say that it is appropriate for drinking.  It was windy; the waves resembled the sea waves a little. There were a lot of boats on the lake and flocks of birds hovered. We walked and made pictures and then turned back home. This trip was very interesting mainly due to the cultural differences. I liked it so much.”

The workers of the center note that the excursion helped the students better understand our culture as in the course of the trip the guides told the stories on the Southern Ural and its traditions.

“The students enjoyed so much, they liked making pelmeni most of all as the dish actually arose in China. Though the Russian pelmeni differ from the Chinese pelmeni immensely,” told Dina Valeeva, Head of SUSU Center for Sociocultural Adaptation.
