Delegation from Huanghe Institute from China Visited SUSU

South Ural State University was visited by representatives of the Yellow River Conservancy Technical Institute.

The purpose of the meeting featuring representatives of South Ural State University and the Yellow River Conservancy Technical Institute was to discuss prospects of cooperation, namely the further development of joint double degree programmes and inclusive education.

“The Yellow River Institute is our good partner. Last year, a group of students from this institute attended our summer school where students were learning Russian language. They liked studying at SUSU very much; they had a lot of motivation and were impressed by our university.

We implement programmes of various majors; for example, the Institute of Architecture and Construction has 36 students from China majoring in Industrial and Civil Engineering, and 14 students are studying Building Materials,” says Vice-Rector for International Relations, Olga Yaroshenko.

The delegation included Vice-Rector of the Yellow River Conservancy Technical Institute Yang Shiheng, Director of the Institute of Hydraulic Structures Tao Yongxia, Deputy Director of the Institute of International Education Zheng Jin, and Head of the Department of Foreign Relations and Cooperation Li Jibin.

On the first day of the meeting, representatives of the higher education institutions discussed current programmes in such specialties as Design of Architectural Environment; Construction; Mechanical Engineering; Electric Power Industry; and Architecture.

“We started our cooperation with South Ural State University 2 years ago, and this year we came to coordinate our curricula and see how our students are living and studying at the university. We haven’t seen everything yet, though SUSU is a very big and prestigious university of Russia. We would like to send here our bachelor’s degree students so that they could complete their master’s studies here. In 2 years, we would like to come to SUSU again and learn about our students,” says Vice-Rector of the Yellow River Conservancy Technical Institute, Yang Shiheng.

On the second day, a meeting of delegates from China with Chinese students who are studying at SUSU was organised.

Third-year student of the Institute of Architecture and Construction, Xu Qingyuan, told us about his emotions after the meeting:

“I was very happy to see representatives of our alma mater here in Russia. They asked us about our life and study here, and we in turn were very touched that our compatriots care about us.”

Head of the International Office, Liudmila Lapina, summarized the visit by the delegation from China.

“Our guests have worked fruitfully with representatives of the Departments. They reached an agreement regarding coordination of curricula on the specialties of interest and asked paying students from China a bit more attention, as sometimes it is hard to get adapted in both study process and in everyday life. Any student who left their country and lives far from home happens to feel sad and homesick, and when students got the opportunity to meet their compatriots, they were happy to talk and share their emotions about living in Chelyabinsk, as well as learn the latest news.”

In the end of the second day, guests of South Ural State University had an excursion around museum complex of SUSU, around laboratories and dormitories of the university, and around Chelyabinsk.

Both parties remained satisfied with the meeting and agreed to coordinate curricula on new specialties in the closest future, and start training of new students from China at SUSU.
