Final Round of “I Am a Professional” Olympiad Was Held at SUSU

The all-Russian “I Am a Professional” student Olympiad aims at finding and supporting talented students and boosting interaction between universities and employers, and is fulfilled under aegis of the Russian Federation Ministry of Science and Education.

South Ural State University, being one of the leading universities in Russia, acted as a venue for holding the Olympiad final rounds under four categories: Big Data; Software Engineering; Radio Engineering; Materials Science and Technologies; and Construction.

In the final round under these categories students from different cities of Russia took part: Tyumen, Kazan, Magnitogorsk and many others. The majority of the participants were students of SUSU.

“I’m currently in the 4th year of studies and I’m writing my graduate qualification paper namely on big data. I’m planning to enrol into Master’s studies in the Big Data programme, so I decided to participate in the Olympiad,” comments Egor Tyashentin, Olympiad participant under Big Data.

The best participants will be awarded prize money, benefits when enrolling with Master’s and postgraduate programmes, as well as they will get a chance to prove themselves to employers. In 2018–2019 academic year the certificate holders of the “I Am a Professional” Olympiad will be awarded bonuses in the amount of 200 and 300 thousand roubles, and benefits when enrolling with Master’s, postgraduate and residency programmes in the leading universities in our country. Also, the project medal awardees, victors and prize-winners can be provided with a profile in the “I Am a Professional” National Database, which gives an opportunity to take internship in big Russian companies. At present, among the Olympiad’s partners are more than 100 organisations, which are involved in developing the tasks and in organizing the internships for the certificate holders.

Brief Information

The first “I Am a Professional” Olympiad was held in 2017, to which 295 thousand applications were filed under 27 categories. Among the Olympiad organisers were Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) and All Russia Public Organisation Business Russia, jointly with ten major Russian universities. More than 4.8 thousand students from 431 universities made it to the finals. 2,030 people became the certificate holders of the first Olympiad – they were awarded prize money, benefits when enrolling with Master’s and postgraduate programmes in the leading universities in our country, as well as an opportunity to take internships in the biggest companies in our country.

This Olympiad is not just an efficient social lift for students, but is also an important indicator of social and economical activity of regions and of the quality of higher education. The project aims at forming transparent mechanisms, which will allow the young citizens of our country develop their professional competences and become specialists who are in demand in the labour market.
