Media Planet, Results Announced for the Contest of School and Student Mass Media

As part of the 4th International Scientific and Educational Forum entitled “Communication Leader of the 21st Century”, which is being held at SUSU with the support from the European Journalism Training Association, the results were announced for the Media Planet international contest and festival of school and student mass media.

The Media Planet international contest and festival is held every year for the purpose of supporting young media specialists, developing the youth intellectual environment, helping school pupils and students unlock their creative potential, and encouraging the striving to develop in the field of journalism.

This year’s contest of school and student mass media was held under the categories of Radio Broadcasting; Printed Media; Multi-purpose Journalism; Internet Media and Social Media; International Journalism; and Television.

“This time the number of television works has significantly increased as compared to the previous year,” shared senior editor of the SUSU-TV television and radio broadcasting company Olga Maruseeva. “We are happy to see that many applications came from school pupils, and that means that they are interested in television journalism, and they like working in the television environment. We are also glad to welcome the faithful friends of our festival, the participants who send their materials to us every year on a regular basis, and we can see their professional growth as future journalists. It’s great that the guys are involved with the television and they are good at it.”

Over 500 applications from almost one hundred educational institutions of China, Crimea, Kazakhstan and more than 30 regions of Russian were filed for all categories. The latter ones included Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Chelyabinsk, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Vladivostok, Tolyatti, Rostov-on-Don, and other cities. The Media Planet international contest and festival of school and student mass media is unique for the fact that at the preliminary round the contest works are being assessed by a jury of students being the festival participants, and quite often their voices became crucial to choosing the winners of the contest.

“I want to commit myself to journalism, so I applied to the Television category. I’m happy to be here not only as a participant, but also as a jury member,” noted a participant representing Gymnasium No.26 Sofia Poromova. “We judge works against various criteria and score them from 0 to 5. Video materials represent different genres: interview, report, investigative report, and many others. Each work has its own unique features, and it is very difficult to choose the best ones among them. I’d gladly take part in this Form next year.”

The future journalists submitted their works under the following categories: Social Report; Captivating Story; A Hero of Our Time; Mobile Reporter; and Alma Mater.

The winners and participants of each category were awarded special certificates, cups and souvenirs at the awarding ceremony.

“Media Planet gives me a chance to challenge myself and show my talents,” said the Media Planet contest participant Marina Terentyeva. “I’m happy to participate since it’s important to know what you can do. It’s a unique opportunity, there are many categories which you can participate in! It’s great and helps you choose exactly what everyone is interested in! Thank you SUSU for holding this contest year after year.”
