SUSU Sports and Recreation Complex: Best Time off for Professors, Students and Kids!

South Ural State University provides its students, academic and administrative staff with all the opportunities not only for self-fulfilment, but for proper rest as well. They can recharge their batteries being away from the hustle and bustle of the city and get positive vibes in a pleasant atmosphere at the SUSU’s “Nepryakhino” Sports and Recreation Complex, which has been functioning for more than 60 years now.

The complex is located in one of the most picturesque parts of South Ural, on the shore of lake Bolshoy Sunukul in a forest area of Nepryakhino settlement in Chebarkul District of the Chelyabinsk Region. “Nepryakhino” Sports and Recreation Complex includes: “Berezka” Children’s Health Camp, “Olimp” Sports and Recreation Student Camp, and “Nauka” Recreation Camp for the University’s administrative and academic staff. All these camps have their own specifics and advantages.

The Best Summer Is a Summer at “Olimp”!

Outdoor recreation is part of the SUSU students’ life. At the “Olimp” Sports and Recreation Camp students can relax after their studying routines and at the same time gain new skills, go in for sports, and develop their intellect and creative talents. This is a place where students enjoy spending their vacations and meet new friends. It all is possible thanks to the camp’s actively developing infrastructure and modern programs.

In the course of the summer vacations, four sessions are organised, which are devoted to student organisations and councils, creativity and sports. Every year, a new program is developed for students in order to make their recreation time interesting and memorable. For instance, in 2018, a meeting of student associations was organized during the first session. For 13 days in a row, students were participating in colourful events of the Mass Cultural Events Committee, Muzkom (Musical Committee), School of Sound Engineers and DJs, KVN, Debate Club, and of other university organisations. Starting from 2017, international students of SUSU have joined the first session. The second session is the meeting of student councils of the schools and institutes. Here students formed teams and competed with each other in a friendly atmosphere. The third session, called Tretyakovka, was devoted to creativity and arts. The fourth session was called “Open Space” and aimed at developing soft skills.

“We have a lot of events in the camp: morning, afternoon, and evening ones. We took part in different games and escape-the-room games, which could last for several hours in a row. It is also very important that we get to know each other here. The camp’s energy and atmosphere give a chance both the relax and to work at certain moments. I’ll definitely come here once again!” shared student of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities Arkady Zubkov.

Every day at the “Olimp” camp is packed with interesting events, training and entertainment. The “Olimp” camp’s sessions aim at enriching the knowledge and skills of students, stimulate their personal development and forming of their social attitude.

“Berezka”: Relaxing and Developing

Over the years, “Berezka” camp has gained popularity with kids and has become one of the favourite recreation spots for children of the SUSU academic and administrative staff. The camps has its own good traditions, it has become a centre for development and implementation of interesting pedagogical technologies, traditional and non-traditional methods of educating and bringing up teenagers.

Every summer, around 300 kids come to the camp. And every year the program of the summer camp for children gets updated: it includes new themed sessions and various entertaining events. Much attention is paid to physical education and sports: the camp offers sports sections, equipped sporting and playing grounds, relay races are held, sports festivities and Camp Olympics are organised.

“I’ve been sending my daughter, two nieces and their friends to Berezka Camp for about 10 years in a row. One of my daughter’s friends will even go there as a counsellor this year. I like that the camp is located on a very cosy and relatively small territory. All counsellors and mentors are very friendly and kind-hearted. A positive moment is that the number of children in Berezka is not that big, so each one of them is under care 27/7. The camp offers many groups of interest. My kids, for instance, like it that they can go to Berezka as one big company of friends and spend great time there. The camp staff always help expertly divide children into units so that they always were in good mood and could rest better,” shared Associate Professor of the Department of Food and Biotechnology of the SUSU School of Medical Biology Natalya Naumenko.

The camp’s educational system is a smooth combination of the experience of qualified teachers and of SUSU students who work as counsellors and supervisors of creativity groups. Every kid develops and improves his/her knowledge in English, Computer Science, Journalism, or Psychology. Modern dancing and singing classes are also held in the camp. SUSU students help children to create their KVN teams and learn how to play this game.

“Nauka”: a Quiet Outdoors Vacation

“Nauka” Recreation Camp is intended for the university academic and administrative staff. The camp’s location away from the city’s hustle and bustle, and the quiet and picturesque nature together create an atmosphere of hospitability. The rooms at the camp’s buildings offer a lake view.

The buildings of the recreation camp can accommodate up to 150 campers. There is a possibility to choose from single, double, triple and modular rooms, as well as to use the conference hall, sauna, parking lot, sporting grounds, and the beach. The rooms feature shower, fridge, and TV. For the summer season the campers can choose log cabins, which have been renovated. The cabins are equipped with toilets, hot and cold water supply, TV and fridges to make the stay comfortable.

“It’s an unforgettable place with great landscapes and fresh pine-scented air of the nearby forest. The sandy beach available at any time of day is literally one minute away. A big plus is that there is an outdoor play ground organized for kids. The camp itself is just 40 minutes away from the city, what is very convenient in case you need to settle some urgent issues. And of course, the camp offers great food and plenty of opportunities for proper rest,” notes Deputy Chairman of the SUSU Trade Union Committee Gennady Budanov.

The campers are offered sports equipment for rent and equipped athletic fields. Ping pong competitions and friendly volleyball and football matches are held. There is a library in the main building giving the campers an opportunity to spend their leisure time reading.

After its renovation the camp started functioning on a year-round basis. Now the SUSU academic and administrative staff are offered a unique opportunity to take a winter vacation here, or comfortable spend a weekend or a holiday.
