Eufactcheck.eu European website published first material by a Master’s degree student at the SUSU ISSH Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Ekaterina Durasova. The publication called “A ‘fake’ bud in populist ground” narrates about a burst of fake news and the wave of populism and considers interrelation between these two phenomena.
On Valentine’s Day, February 14th, a Student Wedding will be held during the midday break at SUSU. The event organisers are inviting all those willing to make their relationships “official” in a mock Civil Registry Office.
On January 31, 2019 first-year Master’s students of the project-based learning programme, as well as Bachelor’s students of the Department of Russian and International History of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities attended an exhibition on the Objects of Cultural Heritage of South Ural held at the Unified State Archive of the Chelyabinsk Region.
Fulbright Programme is a programme of grants for education, founded in 1946. The main purpose of the programme is to strengthen academic and cultural connections between nations of the USA and Russia, as well as improve mutual understanding between our countries. The programme is fully sponsored by the US Department of State.

On February 4, ceremonious opening of the 10th jubilee PMCup Championship on Project Management for the Cup of the Governor of the Chelyabinsk region was held. The Championship is held under the patronage of the Governor of the Chelyabinsk region.
Chairman of the Organisation Committee is Evgeny Redin, First Deputy Governor fothe Chelyabinsk region; Vice-Chairmen are Aleksandr Kuznetsov, the Minister of Education and Science, and Aleksandr Shestakov, the Rector of FSAEI HE “SUSU (NRU)”.
South Ural State University has improved its standing in the UniRank World University Rankings 2019, having climbed 46 positions up as compared to the last year’s results. In the new issue of the UniRank world ranking, SUSU is in the 1238th place, and among Russian universities it is in the 17th place.

In the frames of preparation for Interactive Universe, the Second E-Learning Festival, organized by the Institute of Open and Distance Education of SUSU, a workshop “Video Lecture: Make a Training Video by Yourself” took place.
It is no mystery that Russian winters might be harsh. Located on the boundary between Europe and Asia, Chelyabinsk is a Siberian city, and its temperatures fall far below zero in winter. However, it does not mean only the bravest can survive here. In fact, Russian nature is exceptionally beautiful and mysterious in winter, with snow sparkling on the trees like diamonds. Skating, skiing, strolling in snowy parks (weather allowed!), and drinking hot beverages – Russian winter is a must-have experience.
Under Project 5-100, South Ural State University is working on attracting skilful young scientists with international experience. SUSU Postdoc is a program aimed at supporting the university’s research that offers international postodcs an attractive postdoctoral position to advance their research career.
The Postdoc program has been implemented at SUSU under Project 5-100. In 2018 the University attracted seven postdocs to work at SUSU’ labs and research and education centres. Currently, 11 postdocs are working at the University.

This non-commercial project with a series of radio broadcasts is organized by the Russian Federation Ministry of Education and Science, State Duma Committee for Education and Science, and All-Russian Public Organisation “In Favour of the Quality Education”.
A celebratory concert was held at South Ural State University’s Activity Hall on February 4 on the occasion of Chinese New Year. In Chinese culture, the New Year (Chun Jie) is translated as Spring Festival and is the most traditional and important holiday of the Celestial Empire; the holiday has been existing for more than 2 000 years. This holiday is annually celebrated at SUSU: students from China prepare artistic performances as well as perform national songs and dances.

Project-based learning at School of Medical Biology develops within the project entitled “Development of efficient technologies of grain disinfection”. Starting from January of 2019, a young researcher from India – postdoc Bagale Uday Dasharath – has started his research within implementation of Project 5-100 at SUSU.
Within implementation of project-based learning, the Department of Linguistics and Translation at the SUSU Institute of Linguistics and International Communications together with Russian Electric Motors (REM) JSC is launching an educational project entitled “Linguistic support of manufacturing processes”. Implementation of the project is scheduled for academic years 2019-2021.
On February 2nd, the final round of Zvezda (Star) Multidisciplinary Engineering Olympiad started at South Ural State University. This intellectual competition mostly aims at finding the most bright and talented students, who will become the future elite of our country.
A number of events on the occasion of the Day of Russian Science is to be held at South Ural State University on February 7th through 8th. This holiday, approved by the Presidential Decree back in 1999 is celebrated at SUSU annually.

Students of South Ural State University took part in Coding Camp, a unique off-site winter school for “coders”. During four days, practicing programmers from the leading IT companies in the region worked with the students at the Lesnaya Zastava Recreation Centre.
UN General Assembly proclaimed 2019 to be the International Year of the Periodic Table. This large-scale event is dedicated to the 150th anniversary after discovery of the Periodic law of chemical elements by the great Russian scientist, D.I. Mendeleev.
Initiator of holding the International Year of the Periodic Table was Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian Chemical Society named after D.I. Mendeleev, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, as well as Russian and foreign scientists.
