Doctor of Sciences (Engineering), Professor of the SUSU Department of Electric Drive, Mechatronics and Electromechanics Sergey Gandzha was admitted to the Academy of Electrical Engineering Sciences of the Russian Federation.

Safety Comes First: SUSU Updated Student Access Cards

On January 25th, our university traditionally celebrated Student Day, during which 3 wishes were named that would be granted in 2024. One of the wishes was the creation of access cards for university students in the form of plastic cards with a QR code (the fulfilment of this wish was approved by the Order of the Rector No. 11-13/09 as of February 6, 2024).

Students in Bachelor's, Specialist's, Master's degree and postgraduate programmes can obtain their access cards in one of the following ways:

A team of SUSU engineers, programmers and mathematicians has created a system for preventing breakdowns and emergency shutdowns of a cold rolling mill at Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK). The new diagnostic technology has already been implemented and launched at the enterprise. The work is relevant to the SUSU strategic project of Intelligent Manufacturing under the Priority 2030 program (Science and Universities national project).

SUSU Team Became Four-time Winner in Women's Basketball Student League

The final of the Association of Student Basketball (ASB) Championship in the Tankograd division took place in Chelyabinsk on February 25th. A team from South Ural State University took part in the competition.

ASB is the largest student sports league in Russia and Europe in terms of the number of teams, which annually holds more than 4000 matches in 69 regions of Russia with the participation of 800 men's and women's teams.

We Invite SUSU Students to Attend Games of the Future, the First International Multi-sports Tournament

Unique competitions will be held in Kazan February 21st through March 3rd. This high-tech digital event is based on the phygital concept and combines esports skills, physical activity and new reality technologies, such as VR/AR.

The experimental competition will feature 21 disciplines, and the topics are divided into 5 clusters, which are called challenges: Sport Challenge, Tactical Challenge, Battle Challenge, Speedrun Challenge, and Technical Challenge. Esports teams from more than 100 countries and about 2000 athletes will take part in them.

“Language Is a Reflection of the Mentality of People”: Interview for Mother Language Day

International Mother Language Day is celebrated worldwide on February 21st. This date was chosen for a reason: students, who protested in defence of their native language, Bengali, were killed by police in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, on February 21, 1952. The students demanded to recognize this language as one of the state languages of the country. Later, on November 17, 1999, this holiday was proclaimed by the General Conference of UNESCO and has been celebrated annually since 2000.

SUSU Students Lit the Flame of the Ski-track of Russia

SUSU students had the honour of participating in the Flame Lighting Ceremony at the opening of the Ski-track of Russia, a mass ski race event, in Chelyabinsk. The race was held at the stadium of Elena Elesina Track-and-field Complex last weekend.

Lovely Face and Spinal Disc Herniations: Archaeologists from Chelyabinsk Examined a 2000-year-old Burial of a Sarmatian Woman

At the excavations near the city of Magnitogorsk, SUSU archaeologists, in collaboration with the South Urals Foundation, discovered a unique-for-South Urals burial-mounds complex with an ancient tomb of a young woman. Keep Calm! Scientists Discovered a New Mechanism of Coping with Stress

A team of SUSU scientists, jointly with experts from the Ural Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences and immunologists from China (Huazhong University of Science and Technology), have presented a new understanding of the role of the JAK-STAT intracellular signalling system, which regulates such processes as the growth, development, division and destruction of cells in body, in case of stress disorders. Researchers have proposed to expand the range of means treating the signalling system and disorders caused by stress. 

Alexander Wagner Took Part in the Meeting of the Council on Higher Education and Science under the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region

Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Alexey Texler chaired the Council meeting. In the course of the meeting, the head of our region, leaders and scientists of universities summed up the results of the Year of Science and discussed the priority directions of development of our region’s scientific potential. The governor congratulated the representatives of the scientific community on their professional holiday and reported that the interest in research activity is growing across our whole country. SUSU Scientists Help Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant Increase the Russian Tanks’ Engine Capacity

ChTZ-URALTRAK (Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant) is part of the Russian defence industry complex, and it mainly produces dual-purpose diesel engines with the capacity of up to 1500 hp. The plant is currently solving an important problem on increasing the capacity of a series-production engine, while not making it heavier or leading to losses in its service life. Forcing of the engine inevitably entails increased loads on the main parts, components and units.
