Tatiana Stroganova, Head of the Press Office of South Ural State University, member of the board of the Union of Journalists of the Chelyabinsk Region, received a journalistic “Oscar” for articles in Russian media that popularize science.
The ceremony of honouring the laureates of the highest award in journalism of the Russian Federation called the Golden Pen of Russia Award took place in Moscow at the Novaia Opera theatre as part of the 28th press ball. The prize has been awarded since 1996. Many prominent journalists received it from then on.
Starting from February 7, 2020 applications for participation in the SUSU PostDoc-2020 contest are being accepted. SUSU PostDoc is a program for supporting the university’s research activity by attracting staff members. The program is being fulfilled through the scientific research being conducted by young scientists (postdocs) with the advisory assistance of our university’s scientists.

The Global Game Jam, a video game development competition, was held at the SUSU School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science January 31st through February 1st. The major worldwide contest was organized at SUSU for the seventh time already.
Participating in the Global Game Jam is the best way to start designing games, meet some like-minded people, and fulfil your experimental ideas. This year, South Ural State University has gathered more than 100 participants, 44 of whom are SUSU students.
South Ural State University provides young scientists with a unique possibility to fulfil their scientific potential. Students are actively participating in various contests, and one of these is UMNIK program. In 2019, the contest’s prize-winner was a 1st-year postgraduate student of the SUSU Institute of Engineering and Technology Mikhail Shalashov, who suggested a unique design of a spacecraft propulsion system.

On February 1, the final stage of the Zvezda (Star) Multidisciplinary Engineering Olympiad, one of the most broad-scale school Olympiads in the Russian Federation, started at South Ural State University. The event takes place at 85 venues in our country.
SUSU is the main coordinator of the Olympiad along with the Russian Engineering Union, and 68 leading Russian universities are co-organizers. The winner’s or prize-winner's certificate of the Olympiad allows the applicant to receive benefits when entering almost any university.
At the end of April, a boxing competition was held as part of the Student Games for Higher Education Institutions at Ural State University of Physical Education (UralGUFK). At one of the most popular competitions, more than 50 athletes from Rank 3 to Master of Sport of Russia entered to compete.
This year the SUSU Children’s Online University Educational Centre has celebrated its second anniversary. Since 2018, the project has been promoting scientific fields of the university and research and development creativity for children. The project has no age restrictions; any schoolchild of the 1st through 11th form can participate in the project and take electronic courses.
On February 3, South Ural State University hosted the meeting on the Smart City project implementation in the city of Chelyabinsk. The SUSU staff and representatives of the city business community took part in the event.

The women’s badminton championship and billiard tournament were organized by international students of South Ural State University with the support of the South Ural Association of International Students (AIS).

The executive managers and representatives of SMS Group, Germany, a well-known metallurgical equipment manufacturing company, visited South Ural State University to discuss the development of cooperation. During the visit of the SUSU partners, the agreements were reached on the next joint steps in cooperation in the field of technological processes digitalization.
On February 7 to 8, a number of events devoted to the Day of Russian Science will be held at South Ural State University.
During two days, a series of events aimed at developing scientific potential of the university will be held at SUSU. The key topic will be the development of youth science of the university using successful case studies that are in demand on the market of goods and services.
Getting acquainted with Russian culture and being immersed into an active lifestyle outside of education play a very important role in the adaptation of international students. So, as per tradition, winter activities were organized for them in 2020.
On January 29th, a delegation from the Consulate General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Ekaterinburg paid a visit to South Ural State University. The goal of the visit was to discuss the prospects of collaboration. Among the delegation members were Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Ekaterinburg Abdusalom Khatamov and First Secretary of the Consulate General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Ekaterinburg Bekzhon Kuvanov.
On January 25th, the Russian Students Day, hockey players of Polytechnic Ice Hockey Team of South Ural State University joined the “East” team to take part in the 4th traditional All Stars Game of the Student Ice Hockey League.
This Saturday, on January 25, the second round of the regional championship of the Men’s Amateur Basketball League (MABL) among male basketball teams (season 2019-2020) was held in the Educational and Sports Complex of South Ural State University. At the university venue, the SUSU team met with opponents from the city of Satka.
Associate Professor of the SUSU Department of Sociology, Candidate of Sciences (Pedagogy) Elvira Valeeva has received an official letter of thanks from the Coordination Council of the “Step Into the Future” Russian Youth Program for many years of successful partnership and fulfilment of the program for Chelyabinsk Region schoolchildren.
On January 24, South Ural State University held a traditional celebration of Tatiana Day. The university administration, teachers, staff and students attended the event.
The gala concert started with the theatrical prologue presented by the actors from Mannequin Theatre Studio in historical dresses. Students acted out a scene from the year of 1775, when the Empress Elizabeth of Russia signed a decree on the opening of the Moscow University.
South Ural State University pays special attention to civic and patriotic education of students. The Council of Veterans takes an active part in this event as well.
The Smart School of South Ural State University started functioning in the SUSU branch in the city of Nizhnevartovsk.
The goals of organizing the school were to introduce senior pupils to the branch of SUSU, give opportunity to feel like a student, and provide enhanced training for the Unified State Examination. The task of the school was to attract applicants to study in the branch.
South Ural State University announces the annual Russia through the Eyes of Students photo contest. This contest aims at promoting patriotic education, involving students into creative activities, and developing their interest in Russia. Both professional photographers and beginners aged under 30 are among the participants.
The photographs submitted to the contest should be depicting Russia and its regions. It is important that participants capture interesting and attractive aspects of international life, traveling and tourism.
According to the 2020 competitions results for the right to receive grants of the President of the Russian Federation on state support of young Russian scientists, i.e. candidates of sciences, doctors of sciences and major scientific schools of the Russian Federation, one of the winners was Aleksey Minbaleev, Doctor of Sciences (Jurisprudence), Associate Professor, Professor of the Department of the Theory of Government and Law, Constitutional and Administrative Law.
