About

Head and neck cancers represent the sixth most common cancer worldwide. Due to the complex anatomy, the rehabilitation therapy after treatment is a highly challenging task. Therefore, the primary focus of the research team is to develop devices for voice rehabilitation using computer modelling and 3D printing resources. The silicone-based device is considerably cheaper than the existing counterparts thanks to the unique technology used.

Results

The researchers have conducted a thorough analysis of the existing voice prostheses. Using the SolidWorks software and the RussianDLP 3D printer, Vitalii and Nikita designed and printed the prototype of a voice prosthesis from silicone. The price of the device is expected to be five to ten times lower than the existing counterparts. Vitalii and Nikita are planning to patent their invention and conduct a series of clinical trials before entering the market.
