There is just a little more than two months left until the SUSU Institute of Architecture and Construction begins accepting documents. Director of the IAC Dmitrii Ulrikh spoke to us about how to enrol in the university, earn an increased scholarship, and how graduates can find job.

On April 8th the SUSU’s Nasledie Research-and-Development and Project Centre celebrated its 15th anniversary. The Centre is mainly intended for efficiently solving the tasks on conserving, reconstructing and preserving the historical and cultural heritage of the Chelyabinsk Region.
A selection round for the Metal Cup-2019. The Fourth Industrial Revolution International Championship on Technological Strategy in Metallurgy was held at South Ural State University, Chelyabinsk, on February 27th-28th.
On February 23, Russians celebrate Defender of the Fatherland Day honouring Russian soldiers for their bravery and loyalty to their country. This public holiday dates back to 1918 when Russia was on the verge of Civil War and foreign intervention. At the beginning of 1918, the Council of People's Commissars issued a decree on the foundation of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army to resist the enemy. Throughout its long history, the celebration has changed its name several times, from Red Army Day to Soviet Army and Navy Day to Defender of the Fatherland Day.
Choosing a university is one of the most serious decisions in everyone’s life. For many applicants, the deciding factor in enrolling in a university is the affordability of education. South Ural State University offers around 3,000 state scholarships annually.
This year, according to Order No.346 of the Ministry of Education as of 28.04.2018, a big number of state scholarships will be offered for technical, natural science, and humanitarian fields of higher education.
It is no mystery that Russian winters might be harsh. Located on the boundary between Europe and Asia, Chelyabinsk is a Siberian city, and its temperatures fall far below zero in winter. However, it does not mean only the bravest can survive here. In fact, Russian nature is exceptionally beautiful and mysterious in winter, with snow sparkling on the trees like diamonds. Skating, skiing, strolling in snowy parks (weather allowed!), and drinking hot beverages – Russian winter is a must-have experience.
South Ural State University is collaborating with many partner universities all around the world. On January 28th, the major university of the Chelyabinsk Region started its cooperation with Namangan Engineering-Construction Institute, Republic of Uzbekistan.
On December 25th the annual celebration of Tatiana Day was held at South Ural State University. Students and academics of the university took part in this festive event.

South Ural State University facilitates the adaptation of its international students to the conditions which are new for them. Big part in this process is played by engaging them into extracurricular activities, sports and recreation. Many students who come from abroad take the opportunity to master winter sports in the cold season.

December 5th through 7th the annual ARCH EURASIA International Forum of Architecture, Urban Development and Design was held as part of 100+ ForumRussia International Forum for High-rise and Special Constructions at Ekaterinburg Expo International Exhibition Centre in Ekaterinburg.
On December 15 of 2018, South Ural State University is to celebrate the 75th anniversary from its foundation day. Active preparation for the celebration, which is going to take place within five days, 10th through 14th of December, is being carried out at SUSU. Celebratory event programme will include opening of new laboratories and exhibitions, as well as presentations, concerts, flash mobs, contests and more.
A series of celebratory events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the university continues at South Ural State University. On the occasion of the university’s 75th anniversary, Directors of Schools and Institutes awarded letters of appreciation and honorary credentials to outstanding academics and administrative staff.
On November 29th an 11th International Science-to-practice Conference on KNAUF in the World’s Construction Complex was held at South Ural State University, what has already become a traditional event for the Institute of Architecture and Construction.
The Institute of Architecture and Construction held a contest called “Autumn Mood” among freshman students. Future designers and architects had to present their group in a creative format within a limited time.
Within the frameworks of opening project-based Master’s programme at the Institute of Architecture and Construction a meeting was organised for the students of the 3rd and 4th years of study and the representatives of the SUSU partner, OJSC Chelyabtyazhmashproekt Design Institute, being part of PSO KURS, LLC Group of Companies, as well as of NormaSOFT, LLC company.
Mechanical engineering is a basic sector of economy in practically any highly developed country. It holds the first place among all other sectors of the world industry. Mechanical Engineering Research Institute of South Ural State University not just participates in the process of training students, but also fulfils orders from the leading machine building enterprises of the region.
In the year of SUSU’s 75th anniversary, a veteran of the university, Candidate of Sciences (Engineering), professor of the Department of Welding Engineering, former Dean of the Workers’ Faculty and the Mechanical and Technological Faculty of the Chelyabinsk Institute of Engineering and Technology, Vladimir Stikhin is celebrating his 85th birthday.
Knowledge Day, the festival of the academic year beginning, is celebrated on September 1. This date has a special significance for the first-year students who are going to get down to their lessons in the new status of students.
On August 31, on the occasion of the Knowledge Day, Matriculation Ceremony-2018 was held at the SUSU University square.
Official part of the event was opened by performance teams of the SUSU Art Center, after which the university Rector Aleksandr Shestakov delivered a welcoming speech for freshman students and their parents.
South Ural State University has been cooperating with KNAUF Company for 20 years. In the frames of this cooperation the laboratory “Knauf Materials and Complete Systems” was created, the possibilities of which are used by Institute of Architecture and Construction of SUSU for the preparation of future architects, designers, and builders.
Associate Professor of Department of Construction Production and Theory of Structures of Institute of Architecture and Construction of SUSU Natalia Degtyareva made a report “Thin-Walled Structures” at the Eighth International Conference (ICTWS 2018) which took place in Lisbon in July 24-27.
A 3rd year student of the SUSU Institute of Architecture and Construction Anastasiya Larionova took part in a student exchange program between Zhejiang Ocean University and South Ural State University.
SUSU confidently supports student exchange programs. In particular, the university has established close ties with Zhejiang Ocean University. During the period from the beginning of March till the middle of June, 5 students from SUSU went to Zhoushan, and at the same time, 10 students from the Ocean University came to gain experience in construction at SUSU.
68 Chinese students who completed their second year of education at the Huanghe Professional Hydroengineering University have arrived at the SUSU Institute of Architecture and Construction. During two months, the students will be studying subjects of their field and improving their knowledge of the Russian language.
