A SUSU Delegation Participated in the June Strategic Session for the 5-100 Project

 

On June 6th – 8th, the 17th 5-100 Seminar and Conference was held at the Sechenov First Moscow State University of Medicine. More than 900 people from the 100 largest universities of Russia took part. SUSU was represented by a delegation headed by university rector, professor Aleksandr Shestakov.

During the plenary session, the Russian deputy minister of education and science, Aleksandr Povalko, presented the main areas and tendencies of development in the Program for the Increased Competitiveness of Russian Universities, 5-100, noted the positive sides of its execution as a whole throughout the country and real results already being demonstrated by university participants. The deputy ministry also voiced the new goals standing in front of universities of the 5-100 Project in the near future: strengthening the scientific research aspect and participation of Russian universities in leading international scientific collaborations, and the implementation of new, advanced technologies in Russian universities.

Further, the seminar continued section work in all areas. Participants of the section for attracting leading international researchers and international students to Russian universities included representatives of the SUSU Institute of International Education and the Office for International Cooperation, headed by pro-rector of international activities, Viktor Katochkov and IMO director, Lyudmila Shestakova. Universities shared their experiences, in part, new electronic technologies for attracting students.

The second block of work in the seminar was dedicated to scientometric figures and the promotion of Russian journals in international citation databases, Scopus and Web of Science. A series of recommendations were outlined for preparing articles for publication in highly ranked journals, methods for including journals in global citation indexes, and broadening influence on the international stage.

In the third block of the seminar, PR-techniques for rebranding and the promotion of universities as part of the 5-100 project were discussed.

The seminar was closed with a meeting of the association of global universities to discuss improving staff policies, developing effective contacts, and the issues of attracting international students and international academic staff.
