Peace, Labor, May: SUSU to Celebrate the Spring Holiday

Today we spoke with Yakov Yermoshkin, Head of the SUSU Office of Extramural and Educational Affairs, about his relationship with Spring and Labor Day, Saturday clean-ups at SUSU, and their functions.

What holidays are planned for May 1st?

Per tradition, there is a demonstration being held for students with a labor union feel. Our labor union of public education and science of Russia will also participate.

What is your opinion on this holiday?

I attend the demonstration every year because I believe it’s important to show how many workers we have who care, who are aware of the contributions they are making to the evolution of our city. And I like to feel like part of a big, dynamically evolving mechanism.

Why are Saturday clean-ups important in your opinion?

Saturday clean-ups have a few functions. First, improving the surrounding territory, and the second is its educational function. We must teach people to be conscious, that we are responsible for how our city looks. What we do today determines how our city will be tomorrow.

Have you participated in a Saturday clean-up sometime?

I still remember when I was a first year student, our group and my Vice Dean Anatoly Timofeevich Belonozhko cleaned the territory around the east wing of the main building. Today I am also happy to participate in Saturdays clean-ups.

Per tradition, students, teachers, and staff from SUSU participated in the annual Saturday Clean-up; more than 1000 people participated. Thanks to their efforts, our city glitters with cleanliness and all of the participants of the May First parades and marches can enjoy Chelyabinsk beauty.
