Not Sure What to Major in? SUSU Believes, Future Belongs to Nanotechnologies

One of the most groundbreaking fields of the 21st century world science is studying of nanoparticles. Development of nanotechnologies allows to find best solutions for the most topical and problem sectors: medicine, electronics, optics, space exploration and many others. This is one of the priority tasks for the Institute of Natural Sciences of South Ural State University.

It became possible to observe and manipulate nanoparticles at the time period between the 20th and 21st centuries. Today, a Research and Education Center “Nanotechnologies” is functioning at SUSU; it is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and can provide solutions for a wide range of research tasks. Students of the Institute of Natural Sciences working here get to know the mechanisms of controlling generation and forming of nanoparticles, study their properties, as well as the methods of creating materials with predesigned characteristics.

“The Institute of Natural Sciences of South Ural State University offers a combination of fundamental training and modern technologies, what allows us to be competitive staff “suppliers”. Our graduates are in demand around the world since they are highly qualified specialists in the fields of computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry and ecology,” notes Director of the Institute of Natural Sciences, Doctor of Sciences (Physics and Mathematics), Professor Alevtina Keller.

Modern nanotechnologies comprise several main fields: medicine, nano-electronics, as well as creation of new materials. At present the Institute performs research in all these fields. Thus, some research projects aim at producing organic semiconducting materials of new generation. Moreover, partially the Institute’s research activity is devoted to studying properties of nanoparticles of organic compounds with antitumor and including anticancer activity. So, scientific developments by the scientists of the Institute of Natural Sciences will quite possibly help discover a way to control cancer diseases in the future.

Today in its research the Institute of Natural Sciences is actively collaborating with the leading universities of Great Britain, Germany, USA, Spain, Serbia and Finland, and among its professors are world-renowned scientists. In this context foreign and Russian candidates more and more often choose to enroll with South Ural State University. Moreover, the would-be students are attracted by the combination of an optimal education cost and of top-quality education under programs of the Institute of Natural Sciences, as well as by good standing of our University in the international rankings (Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, Round University Ranking (RUR), and others.).

Pang Yonglin, a first-year Master Degree student from China has been studying under one of the programs of the Institute of Natural Sciences for the third year now. Having received his Bachelor Degree in 2017 he was awarded two diplomas at once: one by South Ural State University, and one by a partner-university in China.

“I chose SUSU because I heard of it as of one of the best Russian universities while back in my home country. Having received my Bachelor Degree I decided to continue my education here to expand the obtained knowledge. Moreover, I wanted to enjoy the opportunity of further learning Russian. I really like both the University and our professors. I’ve been studying here for more than two years now, and can say that I feel at home here,” shares Pang Yonglin. In the nearest future Pang Yonglin is planning to receive his Master’s Degree and go back home, and also keep his work in chemical technologies.

Graduates of the Institute of Natural Sciences are world-class highly qualified specialists with fundamental knowledge in mathematics, mechanics, programming, physics, and chemistry. They are capable of solving most complicated tasks of natural science, engineering and economics by means of using computer technologies. Moreover, the SUSU Institute of Natural Sciences trains talented software engineers, business- and web-analysts, specialists in electronics and nano-electronics.
