South Ural State University students are taking part in the preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Championship as volunteers. A few dozen volunteers from SUSU are now in the cities in which matches will be held, including Yekaterinburg and Saint Petersburg. The volunteers will meet and guide guests of the competitions, work with the audience during the matches, participate in the ticketing program, and offer informational support.
To become volunteers for an event of this level, students need to be responsible, hard-working, friendly, and speak foreign languages well. SUSU student Aleksei Shkurenkov, who is in Yekaterinburg right now as a volunteer in the “Service for spectators” team, told us why he decided to participate in the preparations for the 2018 FIFA Football World Championship.
“I first thought about participating in the preparations for the WC 2 years ago, when they began searching for volunteers. This is an experience that few can have in their lives – foreign language practice and speaking to other volunteers from all parts of our country and from around the world in general. I was surprised that many volunteers came to Yekaterinburg. At the end of the day, we are the ones showing the other side of our country to various guests and fans – the good side, of course. I am proud that this competition is taking place in Russia,” said Aleksei Shkurenkov.
15 thousand volunteers were needed for the 2018 FIFA Football World Championships. 15 volunteer centers across the country chose the best from the many candidates. In the selection process, they also took into account previous experience in volunteering in sporting events.

Round of 16
The winners of the groups in the first round will play with the second teams from other groups. The matches will be held on June 30th (Kazan, Sochi), July 1st (Moscow, Nizhniy Novgorod), July 2nd (Samara, Rostov-on-Don), and July 3rd (Петербург, Moscow «Spartak»). Kick offs (two each day) will be at 17:00 and 21:00.
Then the fans will see the quarter finals. The players will enter the field on July 6th. (Nizhniy Novgorod и Kazan) and 7th (Samara, Sochi). The games will also begin at 17:00 and 21:00.
The semifinals will be on July 10th and 11th. Kick off at 21:00. The games will be held at the stadiums in both capitals.
The third place play-offs will be on July 14th at 17:00 in the northern capital.
The final will be held at the Moscow Luzhniki stadium. On July 18th, Kick off at 18:00.
