Symposium on Metrology Took Place in Bulgaria

Delegation of South Ural State University took part in XXVIII International Scientific Symposium “METROLOGY AND METROLOGY ASSURANCE 2018”, which was held Septermber 10th through 14th in the city of Sozopol (Bulgaria).

Rector of SUSU, Aleksandr Shestakov, took part in the Symposium with a report; he also took active part in discussions. The Department of Philosophy was represented by Head of the Department, Candidate of Sciences (Philosophy), Associate Professor Elena Grednovskaya and by Professor of the Department, Doctor of Sciences (Philosophy), Professor Vladimir Gladyshev. Professor, Doctor of Sciences (Philosophy) Ekaterina Prilukova took extramural participation in the Symposium. 

During the last academic year, team of the Department of Philosophy was working on strengthening of cooperation with representatives of exact sciences. In particular, on May 24, within the frameworks of the 71st Student Scientific Conference held at the SUSU ISSH Department of Philosophy, a roundtable discussion entitled “Cognition as measuring the perspective of metrology in social and humanitarian sphere” and held on the occasion of the World Metrology Day celebrated each year on May 20, was organised.

Unofficial motto of the roundtable discussion was a saying by Galileo Galilei: “Measure what can be measured, and make measurable what cannot be measured”. Cooperation with Doctor of Sciences (Engineering), Professor of the Technical University of Sofia Hristo Radev allowed determining important directions for metrological measurements in humanities.

Philosophers of SUSU took part in the section entitled “Measurements in humanitarian sphere”, in which the Chairman was Doctor of Sciences (Philosophy) Roald Taimanov, with whom the Department had cooperated as well while searching for areas of common interest in humanities and metrology.
