SUSU Took Part in a Conference of the European Journalism Training Association

Another science-to-practice conference of the European Journalism Training Association finished at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). South Ural State University, which is an institutional member of the European Journalism Training Association, was represented at the Conference by Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Liudmila Shesterkina, and Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Candidate of Sciences (Philology), Anna Krasavina.

The International Conference was dedicated to problems of covering crisis situations in the world mass media and to organisation of trainings by the European Journalism Training Association within the Eurofactchecking project, which got included into the master’s degree project-based learning programme of SUSU ISSH Faculty of Journalism’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. Participants of the Conference got methodology consultations and recommendations on development of a national portal and a educational module of fact-checking, coordinated the scheduleof work over the project in accordance with the European Journalism Training Association’s programme. A report in English, prepared by Professor Liydmila Shesterkina and Associate Professor Anna Krasavina, on the experience of the SUSU Faculty of Journalism’s work on development of student journalism at the university’s portal was delivered. In the course of the report presentation, a multimedia longread prepared by SUSU students within the period of covering the meteorite’s falling in the Chelyabisnk region was demonstrated. The report excited a lively interest among participants of the Conference.

Moreover, SUSU representatives and President of the European Journalism Training Association, Nico Drok, discussed important issues regarding cooperation in prospective, and obtained an agreement of EJTA representatives (Greece, Belgium, Holland) to take part in the Communication Leader Scientific and Educational Forum which is to be held in March of 2018. They also determined date and topic of the European Journalism Training Association’s science-to-practice conference scheduled for 2020, which is to be held at SUSU and concern construction of a bridge between Europe and Asia in journalism education. All members of the European Journalism Training Association received invitations to the Conference of 2020.
