Dean of the Faculty of Journalism Took Part in an International Conference on Digital Transformations of Mass Media

Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Doctor of Sciences (Philology), Liudmila Shesterkina took part in the 10th international scientific readings entitled “Mass Media and Mass Communications 2018” organised by Lomonosov MSU’s Faculty of Journalism.

Within the event, a scientific conference entitled “DIGITAL TRANSFORMATIONS OF MASS MEDIA: REGIONAL, NATIONAL AND GLOBAL ASPECTS”, where topical issues of contemporary journalism and journalistic education were considered, was held. At a roundtable discussion concerning Mediatisation in Modern Russia:Theory and Practice, Liudmila Shesterkina acted as a respondent from the team of teaching staff of South Ural State University ISSH Faculty of Journalism’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. The following issues were discussed: Mediatisation of science – a challenge to Russian society and journalism; Mediatisation of sport environment in Russian conditions: the role and functions of the national media system in this process; Geo-branding in the context of mediatisation problems, etc.

The discussion featured representatives of the Commission on Development of Information Society, Mass Media and Mass Communications and the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, as well as notorious foreign scientists in the sphere of mass communications, such as Paolo Mancini, University of Perugia (Italy); Hannu Nieminen, University of Helsinki (Finland); Massimo Ragnedda, Northumbria University (Great Britain), and many others.

At a session dedicated to professional skills of future journalists and artificial intelligence in journalistic education, the report by Liudmila Shesterkina entitled “Modern journalistic education under conditions of project-based learning” excited especial interest. The experience of the SUSU Faculty of Journalism in application of project-based approach in training of new-generation journalists is nowadays being studied and used by many schools of journalism in Russia.
