Last weekend the first games of Polytechnik Ice Hockey Club in the Student Ice Hockey League Championship were held. At their home arena the team from Chelyabinsk entered the competition with Urozhai team from Novosibirsk.
On October 27th in Yunost Sports Palace an opening ceremony was held, which was attended by such guests of honour as Stanislav Mosharov, Chairman of Chelyabinsk State Duma and a Polytechnik Ice Hockey team veteran, who as the club member played in more than 20 seasons, in most of which he acted as the captain; as well as Albert Aminov, Director of the SUSU Club of Physical Culture and Sports. The guests dropped the ceremonial puck together with the teams’ captains.
The first meeting of the teams ended with the score of 11 – 2 in favour of the host team, the second match was also won by Polytechnik (7 – 4). The best scorer of the weekend was Andrey Konovalov.
After that, on October 29 and 30, at Traktor Sports Palace the second game series was held between our team and that of Siberian Federal University. Polytechnik felt very confident on the ice and closed both meetings at big advantage.
Thus, our team managed to win all four games and close them with the total score of 58 – 8 in the opening matches of the Eastern conference.
