The Day of Russian Science at SUSU: Experts will Talk about Secrets of a Successful Science Startup

A number of events on the occasion of the Day of Russian Science is to be held at South Ural State University on February 7th through 8th. This holiday, approved by the Presidential Decree back in 1999 is celebrated at SUSU annually.

Within two days, one of the leading higher education institutions of Russia will demonstrate the university’s scientific potential to students, postgraduates, representatives of small innovative enterprises, and SUSU partners. Key topic of the event will be development of successful scientific projects, demanded on the market of products and services.

“In the frameworks of digital industry, which is a strategy direction for the university’s development and advanced research, we get focused on large-scale interdisciplinary researches which integrate computer sciences with engineering and materials science, as well as with humanities and economic sciences. This is connected with active introduction of big data, neurotechnologies and artificial intelligence, distributed ledger systems, new manufacturing technologies, industrial internet, components of robotic and sensor engineering into the industry. The events held on the occasion of the Day of Russian Science are a unique opportunity for research fellows, postgraduates and students to get submerged into the topics of our university’s strategic development. Moreover, an eventful programme is scheduled to demonstrate the best experiences of commercialisation and promotion of scientific research, both in the Russian Federation and abroad. I am sure that having an energetic and professional team of scientists, academics and students, the university will accomplish significant scientific results!” said Vice-Rector for Research, Aleksandr Diakonov.

On February 7, all the willing are going to have the opportunity to learn the stories of success in startups and innovative activity. Among invited speakers is Pavel Bilenko, Head of educational programmes of Industry 4.0 at Moscow School of Management Skolkovo, Director General of TEKNER Engineering Centre, who has more than 15-years-long experience of working in production and mechanical engineering. Guests of the event will also be able to hear reports delivered by regional representatives of Skolkovo in the Ural region: Director of the Chelyabinsk IT Park, Evgenia Nekrasova, and Director at Business Incubator of the IT Park, Aleksey Piskunov.

On the same day, a presentation of successful projects of SUSU in the programmes of NTI-Development, START and UMNIK is to be held. In a pitch-session format, the winners of the programmes will demonstrate their inventions and projects which obtained grants for their further development. They will talk about parameters and characteristics of a perspective project, key moments in the course of their implementation, and more.

“The primary goal of holding the Day of Russian Science at SUSU is to popularise science among young people in order to attract students to research which have practical result. This will allow strengthening positions of the university as a research and entrepreneurial higher education institution in the frameworks of directions which are currently topical for development of the Russian Federation,” said Deputy Head of the Research and Innovation Services, Anton Nurkenov.

A business game entitled “Develop your Digital Space project” is to be held in the frameworks of the Day of Russian Science on February 8. In the first part of the game, future or already-accomplished young scientists will learn correct formatting of applications for contests. The practicum is to be held by Head of the Project Development and Administration Office at the Research and Innovation Services, Evgeniy Vodyanitskiy. The second part will regard the issue of How to wrap an idea; the moderator will be Head of the Patent Office at the Research and Innovation Services, Natalia Melnichuk. In the third part, event participants will learn how to introduce a product to the market with the assistance by an outstanding 5-year student of the SUSU Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, Kirill Khazhiakhmetov, who had completed his study at the School of Management at Moscow Aviation Institute. Winners of the business game will be awarded with prizes.

Events are to be held on February 7 starting from 10:00 at SIGMA academic building (78 V Lenin prospect).
