DAAD, German Academic Exchange Service Announces Contest on Scholarship Programmes for Scientists and Academics

DAAD, German Academic Exchange Service has announced three contests on scholarship programmes.

The mission of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is to unite people and science. This organisation, founded in 1925, is currently the leader in the field of international exchange of students and researchers.

The DAAD scholarships facilitate the development of scientific exchange, strengthening of partnership relations and establishing of solid contacts between universities in Russian and Germany. The programmes are intended for those who are interested in Germany and its universities, and who is planning on studying or conducting research in Germany.

1 – Regional Round of Falling Walls Lab in Saint Petersburg

This contest gives young scientists a chance to present their innovative research projects, which should be done in English and within a three-minute time. The winner will take part in the final round of Falling Walls Lab, to be held in Berlin on November 8, 2019, and will present his/her ideas before the highly professional jury comprising experts of science and business, as well as members of the general public. Three winners of the final round of Falling Walls Lab in Berlin will be awarded the title of Falling Walls Young Innovator of the Year, and a monetary bonus.

2 – Scientific Internship for Researchers and University Academics

This is a contest for university academics and prominent scientists, who as a rule should be holders of the Candidate of Sciences degree and should be working in a Russian university or research-and-development institute/ centre.

The scholarship is intended for taking a scientific internship at a state university, or one with the state accreditation, or at an extra-university research centre in Germany. Projects may be fulfilled at several German universities. Giving lectures and participating in congresses is not included into this scholarship.

3 – DLR-DAAD Scholarship Programme in the Field of Space Research, Aeronautics, Power Engineering, and Transport

Special programmes are intended for university graduates, postgraduates, scientists and academics dealing with the field of space research, aeronautics, power engineering, and transport.

There are 3 types of participants:

  • Type A: Doctoral students (doctoral studies in Germany), 36 months, 1,760 euro (plus a bonus of 102 euro for materials), for example, travel expenses at a fixed rate, medical insurance, family benefits.
  • Type B: Postgraduates (research studies in Germany), 6 to 24 months, 2,400 euro.
  • Type C: Senior research fellows (research studies in Germany), 1 to 3 months, 2,760 euro.

Applicant requirements (as of the moment of filing the application):

  • Availability of confirmations to the scientific achievements;
  • Type А: Master’s (Specialist) degree, obtained no earlier than 6 years ago;
  • Type В: Candidate of Sciences degree/(PhD), obtained within the recent 2 years;
  • Type С: working at a university or research-and-development institute;
  • High proficiency in English; knowledge of German is a plus;
  • Not a citizen of Germany.
