Researchers at South Ural State University have developed and patented an electroplating stand and a droplet collector, which is part of the cleaning system of this stand.
These innovations were developed and tested in the electroplating workshop of the Ural Engineering Centre as part of joint work with the university under the Federal Targeted Program on Research and Development in the Priority Fields of the Science and Technology Sector of Russia for 2014-2020 (project head, Candidate of Sciences (Engineering) Dmitriy Ardashev).
The electroplating stand makes it possible to apply a quality layer of chrome to a processed part, mainly to axially symmetrical bodies. The high efficiency of this stand is ensured by partially immersing the part in the electrolyte, rotating it during the electroplating process, what significantly decreases technogenic strains of the technology by reducing the volume of the electrolytic bath, and also by applying mechanical activators during the electroplating process, which contact the chrome surface and move in a reciprocating motion.

When the cleaning equipment for this stand was worked on, the researchers suggested a new construction for the droplet catcher – a device for efficient purification of liquid-gas mixture from liquid and water-soluble aerosol particles in the electroplating, etching, and chemical productions. The unique thing about the droplet catcher is that it can be installed at any point in the gas flue, and the main unit (the knockout element) is made of chemically- and thermally-resistant material.
