Young Progessors Olympiad to be Held at SUSU for Cosmonautics Day

The Young Progessors Olympiad will be held at South Ural State University for the ninth time. This event is organised by the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering of the SUSU Institute of Engineering and Technology. The Olympiad is held on the occasion of one of the most significant dates in the Russian calendar - Cosmonautics Day.

The Young Progessors Olympiad is aimed at developing interest in such fields as cosmonautics, rocket building and control systems, and at supporting innovation and invention among young researchers. In addition, the Olympiad presents the winners and top finalists with a chance to earn additional points when applying for enrolment at SUSU.

The Olympiad is held with support from: FSUE Research and Development Institute of Mechanical Engineering (Nizhnyaya Salda) and Ural Airlines (Yekaterinburg). Pupils in grades 6-11 from schools, lyceums, and gymnasiums, as well as students of colleges and professional lyceums are invited to participate.

The Olympiad is held in the following categories:

  • Space and Rocket Technology;
  • Aviation;
  • Devices and Control Systems;
  • Scientific Readings;
  • Engineering Exhibition.

In the first four categories (Space and Rocket Technology, Aviation, Devices and Control Systems, Scientific Readings), young researchers can participate in a conference organised specifically for the Olympiad. Participants can also present their inventions at the Engineering Exhibition.

Participants of the Olympiad can present their finalised research projects in four fields:

  • Aviation – for example, manned and unmanned aerial vehicles, devices, control systems, aerodynamic designs;
  • Cosmonautics – near-earth space exploration, deep space exploration, creation of inhabited bases on different planets, means of transportation;
  • Deep sea vehicles – manned and unmanned vehicles for study of the ocean depths, deep sea inhabited and uninhabited stations;
  • Technologies in aviation and cosmonautics.

All of the participants will receive certificates of participation in the Olympiad. The winners and top finalists who are in 11th grade can earn additional points when applying for enrolment in the Aerospace Engineering Faculty: 10, 8 and 6 points for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, respectively.

The Olympiad will be held on the second floor of SUSU Building 2 (Aerospace Engineering Faculty) on April 6th.
