SUSU Associate Professor Takes Part in “Arctic: Territory of Dialogue” the International Arctic Forum

April 8th to April 10th, “Arctic: Territory of Dialogue” 5th International Arctic Forum was held in Saint Petersburg. This forum is a key platform for discussing the pressing issues of social-and-economic development of the Arctic territories, elaboration of tiered many-sided mechanisms of mutual unlocking and efficient development of the great resource potential of the Arctic region.

Within the frameworks of this event a plenary meeting was held, among the participants of which were President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Väinämö Niinistö, President of the Republic of Iceland Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway Erna Solberg, and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Sweden Kjell Stefan Löfven.

Besides the plenary meeting of the leaders of states, the event included sessions, the participants of which were Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Nordic countries, Heroes of Russia, governors of the Nordic regions, heads of international organisations, university rectors, and top managers of state-owned corporations.

In one of such sessions on the Development of a Social Model for People’s Presence in the Region, one of the speakers who delivered his presentation was the Associate Professor of the Department of International Relations, Politology and Regional Studies Maksim Gutenev. At the closure of the forum the collaboration agreements were made with the Director of the USA Science Diplomacy Centre Paul Berkman, General Director of North and Arctic Economics Centre for the Study of Productive Forces Alexander Pilyasov, and with other organisations working in the exploration of the Arctic.
