SUSU Staff Took Part in an International Seminar on Philosophy

May 23rd through 27th, an offsite seminar with international participants entitled “Regarding philosophy seriously” was held within implementation of a strategic research project of the Department of Philosophy entitled “Philosophical practice in education and science”.

The event featured a visitor from abroad, Lydia Amir, PhD in Philosophy, Philosophy Professor (Beit Berl Academic College, Kfar Saba, Israel and Philosophy Department, Tufts University, Medford, MA, USA).

Within the seminar, Lydia Amir delivered a lecture entitled “Serious attitude towards philosophy: overcoming the gap between theory and practice”, and two workshops: “A new look at recognition of responsibility of philosophers in Russia and around the world” and “Homo Risibilis – a Laughing Person”.

The Department of Philosophy is planning to carry out further cooperation with Lydia Amir in the frameworks of development of international activity and representation of the university in the global scientific community.

Lydia Amir balances academic philosophy in the best traditions of European universities and philosophical counseling, which she has been practicing since 1992. She has been an honorable of the American Philosophical Practitioners Association (APPA) since 1997. Starting from 2018, she has been an international consultant of the Russian Academy of Science. She acts as the organiser of national (Israel) and international events and conferences on humor, sexuality and philosophical practice. She is the author of 5 books, including: Humor and the Good Life in Modern Philosophy: Shaftesbury, Hamann, Kierkegaard; Rethinking Philosophers’ Responsibility; Taking Philosophy Seriously – and more than 100 research articles, including 5 published in Scopus database.
