SUSU Sums up the Results of the Work at the Synthesis and Analysis of Food Ingredients International Laboratory

A conference on the Applied Aspects of Sonochemistry was held at South Ural State University and was devoted to summing up the results of the activity of the Synthesis and Analysis of Food Ingredients International Laboratory.

The Synthesis and Analysis of Food Ingredients Laboratory was opened at the SUSU School of Medical Biology in 2016. The laboratory is headed by Professor of National Institute of Technology, Warangal, India Shirish Sonowane, and on behalf of SUSU the laboratory is supervised by Doctor of Sciences (Engineering), Professor Irina Potoroko. The honoured conference guest was Professor, Doctor Ashokkumar Muthupandian of the University of Melbourne, Australia. The reporting conference showed that over the three years of work at the laboratory a certain breakthrough was made in expanding the field of scientific interests, as well as with regard to international collaboration.

"Today we've presented the results of innovative research, for instance, the studies of fucoidan, or development of nanoemulsion by using ultrasound. It's very important that the participants showed the possibility to commercialize the resented research. In the future, we're planning on expanding the work of our laboratory and participating in international grants within the European Union and BRICS programmes," noted Head of Laboratory Shirish Sonowane.

Professor Ashokkumar Muthupandian thanked for the wonderful organization of the event and noted the high level of the projects:

"I believe that all the presented projects are very interesting and have the potential for commercial application. I'm sure, the work of those can be continued beyond Russia and they will be appreciated in the international market. We see this as the goal of our collaboration with Irina Potoroko. Today, we have a great opportunity to participate in big grants, and I think, it will serve the further development of our joint research."

The participants of the reporting conference on the Applied Aspects of Sonochemistry included Master's students, postdocs, postgraduate students and the academic staff of the Department of Food and Biotechnology of the SUSU School of Medical Biology, as well as industrial partners. Among those was Dmitry Tkachukov, head of projects on Gogino Agricultural and Industrial Park; and Biotechnological Research.

"We're very interested in the field of deep grain disinfection and development of a biodegradable polymer from modified starch, which can then be used to produce disposable cutlery. We see huge potential for the research studies in this field," shared Dmitry Tkachukov.

It is being planned to develop the project on bioplastics production jointly with SUSU in the future.
