SUSU Students and Postgraduates Present Their Projects at Magnitogorsk Rolling Practice 2019 Conference

Students and postgraduates of South Ural State University took part in the 4th International Youth Science-to-practice Conference Magnitogorsk Rolling Practice 2019. Students of the Department of Machines and Processes of Pressure Metal Working of the SUSU Institute of Engineering and Technology delivered presentations along with young scientists from different universities of our country and from around the world.

The Magnitogorsk Rolling Practice conference was held at Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University June 4th through June 7th. The event was devoted to exchanging experience in the field of pressure treatment of metals. At this conference, young scientists, students, postgraduates and representatives of well-known universities from different cities of Russia and the near abroad discussed the relevant issues of development of this field of knowledge.

At the plenary meeting, famous scientists from India, China, Italy, Poland, Belarus, and Kazakhstan delivered their speeches. More than 30 young scientists from different cities of Russia, as well as those from Iraq and Myanmar presented their research under three sections: Cross-disciplinary Solutions in Modern Materials Engineering; Innovative Technologies and Materials of Pressure Metal Working; and Fundamental Problems of Pressure Metal Working in the Context of Modern Needs of the World Industry.

Among the conference participants were: Associate Professor of the Department of Machines and Processes of Pressure Metal Working Evgeny Shkuratov, postgraduates Denis Akhmerov and Ahmed Saleem Oleiwi Al-Khuzaie, as well as Master’s students of the project-based learning group Lev Glebov and Vitaly Bykov.

The students presented their projects based on serious practical work. SUSU postgraduate from Iraq Ahmed Saleem Oleiwi Al-Khuzaie delivered his presentation in English on Studying the Process of Plastic Resistance of Metal in the Wide Range of Measuring the Temperature Mode for Pipe Steel. He was conducting his research in GLEEBLE 3800 complex, which is located at the university. This report was named among the best ones, and the postgraduate student was awarded the certificate of the 3rd category.

Master’s student Vitaly Bykov shared on the project on reconstruction of metallurgical equipment using the method of laser cladding. These technologies are being studied at the Laboratory of Mechanics, Laser Processes and Digital Production Technologies. According to the Department’s representatives, this field is a promising one because thanks to this technology it becomes possible to reconstruct the worn-out expensive equipment or provide it with new performance characteristics, such as wear resistance and corrosion resistance.

Special attention was paid to the presentation by Master’s student Lev Glebov, who defended his project on POIn-52 Solder: Studying the Process and Developing the Technology of Small-batch Production of Wire. In this report he shared the Department had developed a technology of small-batch production of brazing wire for Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant. This solder is made of indium and tin metal. The student explained that this development is relevant because starting from the year of 2006 it has been prohibited to use lead solders in electrical engineering due to their being hazardous for ecology. The Master’s student was awarded a certificate in the category of the Best Practical Fulfilment for the innovative aspect and quality of practical execution.

SUSU students noted that such events allow to share experience and make new acquaintances in the academic environment:

“We have solely positive impressions from this conference. The atmosphere was tranquil and comfortable, what allowed for free communication both with students and professors in the field of pressure metal working who came from different universities of our country and from around the world. Vitaly and me were personally invited to the October conference by Professor Sergey Lezhnev from Rudny Industrial Institute. To young scientists I would wish more of such conferences where they could expand their circle of contacts, learn a lot of new things, share their experience, and simply meet new friends,” shared his impressions Lev Glebov.

The authors of the best presentations were awarded bonuses and were invited for publication in journals indexed in Scopus scientometric system, as well as in those included in the List of Russian Peer-reviewed Scientific Editions.

In addition, the attendees of the Magnitogorsk Rolling Practice conference took part in the industrial and cultural program, which included a visit to Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works.
