Young International and Russian Scientists Choose SUSU

Within the frameworks of fulfilling the competitiveness enhancement program, another SUSU Postdoc contest has wrapped up at South Ural State University. At round I of this year's contest, the scientific and research laboratories and departments presented 15 projects in the university's priority fields. The contest Committee admitted that the topics of all 15 scientific projects were relevant and promising.

The second round of the contest showed good results as the staff of the International Research Collaboration of the International Office were actively working on searching and selecting young and promising scientists for the fulfilment of research projects. Over 25 applications had been filed for the participation in the contest.

The selection to the contest requirements were quite high. To become postdocs, young scientists have to be under 35, with recently defended candidate (or PhD) thesis, fluent in English, having publications in the leading scientific journals with high impact factor, and whose Hirsch index is no lower than 3.

Not everyone managed to pass through the selection round – only ten best young international and Russian researchers will begin working at the departments and scientific and research laboratories and centres of SUSU in September.

SUSU Postdoc contest has been held at the university since 2016, and over time the geography of the participants has significantly expanded. Thus, this year, four postdocs will come to work on two research projects to the Computer-Aided Drug Design Research Laboratory: Shivananda Kandagalla and Afzal Hussein from India, Hrvoje Rimac from Croatia, and Ayari Tarek from Tunisia. The work on two projects of Nanotechnology Research and Education Centre will be carried out by a young scientist Rajakumar Kanthapajam from Anna University, India, and two Russian young scientists – Oleg Bolshakov and Timofei Chmovzh. A great specialist with a Hirsch index equalling to 10, Zhao Dawei from Linyi University, China, will start working on a scientific project of the Department of Welding Production Technology and Equipment of the Institute of Engineering and Technology. The Department of Materials Science and Physics-and-chemistry of Materials will welcome a young and promising Russian scientist, who has just recently defended her PhD thesis at University of Technology Troyes, France, Elena Vakhitova. One more postdoc from Mexico, Jorge Mario Cortés-Mendoza, will come this October to the Department of Electronic Computing Machines. Tatiana Subbotina, Head of the International Research Collaboration of the International Office has shared this information with us.

We hope that all the young postdoc scientists, who will come to us this year, will be able to fulfil their research ideas here, apply their knowledge, and gain additional experience by working under guidance of outstanding scientists of our university, explains Tatiana Subbotina.

The attraction of promising and talented young Russian and foreign researchers will allow our university to increase its publication activity, the quality of scientific research and development, as well as the recognisability of SUSU in the world scientific community.
