Professor of University of Southampton Andrew Cundy Gives Lecture on Ecology

During his visit to South Ural State University, Andrew Cundy, Professor of University of Southampton, United Kingdom, and member of the SUSU International Scientific Council, offered a lecture on searching for efficient methods of solving ecological issues.

Professor Andrew Cundy of University of Southampton joined the SUSU International Scientific Council in 2019. He is one of the leading international specialists in the fields of ecology, geology, and environmental radioactivity. Ecology is one of the three crucial fields of strategic development at SUSU, which is important not only for Chelyabinsk, but for the whole world as well.

Andrew Cundy has written 110 publications and has been awarded 2 patents; his Hirsch Index is 31. During his lecture for students and staff of South Ural State University, Professor Cundy presented the results of his research dedicated to searching for efficient methods of solving ecological issues.

“My colleagues and I have been researching water and soil pollution, environmental radiation, ecological geology, and issues on monitoring pollution for many years now. One of the fields of our work is the development of new materials for environmental protection and engineering applications. We pay special attention to inexpensive and efficient cleaning methods,” said Professor Cundy on the topic of his lecture.

In addition, Andrew Cundy praised the university’s international laboratories. He noted that research in the field of solving environmental and ecological issues is very promising thanks to cross-disciplinary cooperation between scientists.

“I’m very happy that as a member of the SUSU International Scientific Council, I have the wonderful opportunity to work with the university’s researchers and leadership. I am sure that together, we can develop research and academic programmes in the field of ecology and environmental protection. International partnership and new international projects will be helpful both for the Chelyabinsk Region and the whole world. My goal is for international researchers to come work in Chelyabinsk with SUSU researchers to solve ecological issues,” noted Andrew Cundy.

During his visit, Professor Cundy also attended a presentation on SUSU’s ecological research projects, met with the university’s leadership, the institutes’ and schools’ directors, and the heads of the scientific and academic offices to discuss plans and opportunities for future partnership.
