SUSU Students Took a Series of Excursions and Lectures at Museum of Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant

Students of the School of Economics and Management of South Ural State University took part in a series of excursions and lectures at the Museum of the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant.

Preparing for the main event dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, students took a close look at the history of Tankograd. The meeting with war veterans, inhabitants of besieged Leningrad, and home front workers in the Museum of the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant became particularly memorable for the students. The museum staff showed documentaries about the Battle of Stalingrad, the besieged Leningrad and the workers of the plant during the war years.

It was unusual for students who participated in the excursion to hear the story of the legendary Tankograd from the Director of the Museum Nadezhda Dida. For her, every photo and every exhibit item of wartime is a memory of her youth and work in the shops at the machine site. Nadezhda managed to convey the spirit of wartime, when people worked overtime, overfulfilling the plan hundreds and thousands of times. All workers of the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant understood that their dedicated work on the home front forged the Victory over the enemy!

The students were especially interested in the mock-ups of tanks that the plant produced during the war years. These are the KV-1 heavy tanks, T-34 heavy-medium tanks, and the IS-1 and IS-2 light tanks. In the design bureaus, the most daring ideas of tank construction were born and implemented. And the help to the plant was provided by the students of our university, which was established in 1943 as a defence institute that trained the engineering personnel necessary for a military tank factory.

At the end of the last excursion, students sincerely thanked the staff of the Museum of the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant for interesting historical material about the history of the tractor plant and the legendary Tankograd, and presented memorable gifts. The students expressed a desire to organize an excursion to the memorable places of Tankograd and the memorable complexes of the city of Chelyabinsk associated with the Great Patriotic War. Nobody is forgotten and nothing is forgotten!
