International Conference on Economic Security Held at SUSU

The 5th International Science-to-practice Conference for Scientists, Postgraduates and Representatives of Business Organizations called Problems of Economic Security and Customs Regulation: Searching for Effective Solutions was held at South Ural State University.

The conference brought together scientists from all regions of Russia. Speakers from universities of such cities as Barnaul, Vladimir, Ekaterinburg, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg, Tyumen, and other cities delivered reports at the conference. Scientists from the USA, Belarus, and Kazakhstan took part in the conference as well.

"Problems of Economic Security and Customs Regulation: Searching for Effective Solutions Conference is being held for the fifth time in 2020. Within the conference, we consider the threats and risks which accompany economic activities both at the macro level and at the level of regional economic systems. The conference allows discussing the problems that the scientific community, representatives of business organizations and authorities are interested in, moving beyond only own “shop floor” views, and expanding the fold. Over the years, we’ve met many colleagues from leading Russian universities, established cooperation with representatives of foreign universities and foreign companies," says Head of the Department of Economic Security at the School of Economics and Management, Doctor of Sciences (Economics) Anzhelika Karpushkina.

At the plenary session, reports were made by the following speakers: scientist and practitioner PhD Michael Jacob Stool (Conducive Corporation, USA); Dean of the Management Technologies and Humanitarization Faculty of the Belarusian National Technical University Gennady Brovka (Republic of Belarus); General Director of OBiCon Consulting Company LLC, Chairman of the Regional Council for Valuation Activities in the Chelyabinsk Region, appraiser Igor Patrushev; Deputy Head of Chelyabinsk Customs, Lieutenant Colonel of the Customs Service Eduard Turanov, etc.

Each of the speakers drew attention to the significance of the conference, noted the format of the discussion platform, in which the logic of establishing a dialogue was the most effective and productive, and presented one of the pressing problems related to economic security and customs regulation.

"Such events are useful both for students and postgraduates, and for teachers. The most important thing for specialists in economic security is not to lose the connection between practice and theory. It is necessary not only to gain new knowledge, but also to learn how to apply it in practice. It is also very important for students when they graduate from the university. Issues that are addressed at the conference are later reflected in thesis projects. In addition, it is important for students to be able to relate theory to practice," says Vice President of the Chelyabinsk Regional Agency for Economic Security and Risk Management, Vice President of the South Urals Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergei Ulianovskii.

In total, more than 55 reports were presented at the Problems of Economic Security and Customs Regulation: Searching for Effective Solutions Conference. As a result of this event, the SUSU School of Economics and Management will publish a collective monograph on economic security issues and a collection of scientific papers of the customs regulation section.
