The Scientific Library of South Ural State University has moved to the mode of distance work. Students can get access to its resources via the Internet.
The SUSU Library continues to work and constantly keeps in touch with students; the contact information is given on its website. In social media and on the website of the library its staff members post reminders on the available subscriptions to educational and scientific electronic resources, and also regularly update the information on the accessibility of new sources.
In addition to the current university electronic subscription new options are now offered: due to the fact that universities have switched to distance learning, many of the publishing houses have granted an expanded access to Russian editions, including textbooks and study guides, in all fields of knowledge, on the platforms of electronic library systems Лань, Юрайт, Znanium.
Also, free access to some of their resources is being granted by many foreign universities, for instance, by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Oxford and University of Cambridge. Besides textbooks and scientific periodical publications, these universities offer training courses for teachers.
Test access has been granted to the leading online resource on medical problems AccessMedicine and to training platform AccessEngineering. The Annual Reviews publishing house releasing scientific journals has opened unlimited access to its editions till the end of April 2020.
Moreover, today it is possible to make an online order for an electronic copy of a document fragment from the archives of the Russian State Library. The National Library of Russia launches a new "Quarantine Free" project. Starting from March 23rd one new open full-text resource will be offered every day.
Our university has open online access to a convenient platform for studying foreign languages, Rosetta Stone. This software product allows to study more than 30 languages of various groups, including English, Spanish, French, Chinese, and Japanese.
Students, who have not yet managed to register in-person, can e-mail to the Electronic Resources Room and get access to the required resources. Director of the SUSU Scientific Library Svetlana Smolina shares on the library's distance functioning.
“It's convenient for students to for in this format as they spend much time on the Internet. They use cell-phones and laptops, and that means they can work remotely. Besides our common electronic subscription, which is a broad one in and of its own, many publishing houses are now offering open access, and this is a big plus when moving to distance learning. On our part, we keep restocking our electronic library. While working on this we expanding our collection of study guides with the access via the electronic catalogue on the library's website.”
Svetlana Smolina noted that the Scientific Library is ready to keep working despite these difficult times.
