Many students from around the world are studying at South Ural State University. Each one of them has their own story: some are just starting their journey and preparing documents for admission, while others have already defended their diplomas and are preparing to fulfil their potential as professionals in their chosen field. Despite their different languages, skin colour, and cultural experiences, students make new friends here, overcome difficulties, obtain interesting opportunities to fulfil their abilities in many fields, and so the university holds a special place in their life. It unites people, provides knowledge, and opens up new horizons for the future.
Loubo Gabriel N'Kita came from Republic of the Congo; he is completing his studies in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at the Department of Information Communication Technology. We asked him to answer our questions about studying at SUSU.
- Why did you decide to study at South Ural State University?
- I came from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which is located in Central Africa. One of my friends studied in Moscow, and it was him who advised me to get an education in Russia. Therefore, I turned to the embassy and found out what I needed to become a student at a Russian university. There they told me in detail which documents I should prepare. After that, they helped me decide on a university. And when I said that I wanted to become an engineer, they advised me to go to SUSU. So I applied to study here.
- Did you have any difficulties at first?
- I took the whole path of studies at SUSU, from the Faculty of Pre-University Education to the final year of studies. They helped me a lot when my studies began, because I had difficulties with adaptation. I was the only student from Africa in our group, it was very difficult for me. Everyone tried to help me: friends, the group head, teachers. I still feel their support. I think meeting such friends is a very big chance in life. I will probably never forget this, it means a lot to me.
- Which faculty did you study in? What achievements do you consider to be the most significant ones?
- I understand that I am at the very beginning of my journey, but I always wanted to become an engineer. I really like technology, I want to learn about how technologies work, and what possibilities there are for their application in life. After all, we use them all the time; they make our life better. For example, I am never without my phone. My goal is to become a real engineer. University for me is not only studying. Yes, it did take much time, but I tried to participate in events as much as possible in order to learn more about the language and culture. This is very important, because it is a chance to meet new people, including other foreign students of our university. You can get to know each other better, spend time together, make friends. And I did it! It’s a unique experience and it’s just great when you chat with friends, find common topics, and no one is aggressive toward one another.
- What did you do besides studying?
- I really love sports and try not to miss any opportunities to do sports. And the rest of the time I prefer walking in the fresh air, cooking homemade food, and watching TV shows. I often listen to music.
South Ural State University is a participant in Project 5-100, which is designed to enhance the competitiveness and recognition of the university worldwide. The university is working to develop cooperation with other countries, attracting students and young scientists to collaborate on projects and research.
