48 hours for development of video games – Global Game Jam at SUSU again

On January 29-31 the largest international competition Global Game Jam will be traditionally held at the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Informatics of SUSU. GGJ participants have 48 hours to organize a team and develop a computer game on the given topic from the scratch simultaneously with more than 20 000 programmers, artists, game designers and simply game fans from dozens of countries.

Participation in Global Game Jam is the best way to start making games, meet co-thinkers and implement experimental ideas. The prototypes of such games as Surgeon Simulator, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime and Mushroom 11 were first developed on the basis of GGJ, but later became commercially successful hits and received prestigious decorations of Independent Games Festival. Some games like Turtle Shift you can play online right now.

Moreover, Global Game Jam is a great way to learn how to develop video games, since beginners and professionals may participate in this competition. All previous games and their source codes are available on the official website of GGJ. Many games are also available in mobile app stores; games of SUSU participants East Westwood and Petty Tyrant are not the exception.

The sponsors and organizers of Global Game Jam are the largest IT companies and universities of the world: Facebook, Google, MIT, California Polytechnic University and many others. The sponsors at SUSU are IT companies of Chelyabinsk and Yekaterinburg, such as SKB Kontur, EVA Studio, Caravan Games and AppBit. The professional developers of these companies will help Jam participants not only organize teams and choose good ideas for games, but also award the best students with prizes.

Anyone who is interested in video games can participate in the competition, but the number of participants is limited. Potential participants should preliminary fill in a form and register on Global Game Jam website.
