SUSU Students Took Part in the Karman Line Rocketry Hackathon

Aerospace Engineering students of the SUSU Institute of Engineering and Technology took part in the Karman Line Rocketry Hackathon, which was held at Samara National Research University named after Academician S.P. Korolev from July 25 to July 29, 2023.

The All-Russian Karman Line Competition of Experiments in Stratosphere and Space is a competition among student teams from various universities in our country who want to try their hand at conducting their own experiments in stratosphere and space. SUSU students became members of two teams that were solving a difficult problem. They had to design, construct and launch a rocket vehicle model for placing a payload into space with limited resources and time. In addition, it was necessary to apply their skills in solving the complex problem of design, 3D modelling, programming and prototyping.

Students of the SUSU Institute of Engineering and Technology, majoring in Aircraft and Rocket Engines Engineering, and in Engineering, Manufacturing and Operation of Rockets and Rocket-and-Space Complexes, created a rocket model that went through all the stages of production. In the process, the main mission was completed − the launch of the designed apparatus.

"It was an incredibly inspiring and fascinating event that left the best impressions and gave me new knowledge about rocket modelling. I would like to note the impeccable organization of the event. Everything was thought out to the smallest detail. The location of the event was chosen very well, with a stunning view and a comfortable atmosphere. I would also like to express my gratitude to the organizers for creating a pleasant atmosphere and opportunities for communication. I was able to meet interesting people from my and related fields of activity and do some networking to make new connections, which, I am sure, will be useful in the future," Olga Melnikova, a student of the П-323 group, shared her impressions.

In addition to the main competition during the in-person round, the organizers of the hackathon launched a creative photography competition among the participants. Vector team became the winner. The team members included SUSU students and students from MIREA and ITMO universities. The Vector team also won the space quiz.
