SUSU Scientists Created a Database of Food Manufacturers of the Chelyabinsk Region

Scientists of the SUSU Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service obtained a certificate of state registration for developing a database that accumulates information about food manufacturers. The database can be of use for state authorities and local governments for the purpose of import substitution and effective solution of logistics problems.

The database includes all food manufacturers located on the territory of the Chelyabinsk Region: meat processing enterprises, poultry farms, vegetable and legume production, milk and dairy products, etc.

Well-systematized, and most importantly, verified information is needed for organising import substitution and providing public catering enterprises with up-to-date information about products that are manufactured in our region. This is especially important for small businesses.

“This database was created namely to avoid wasting time on selecting suppliers, manufacturers and save production resources. It helps search for and sort objects according to certain criteria. We processed a wide range of manufacturers, everything was verified, and the data was combined into a single resource,” said Olga Rovinskaya, head of the project, Candidate of Sciences (Pedagogy), Associate Professor of the Department of Production Technology and Catering Organization.

There are many enterprises on the territory of the Chelyabinsk Region that are engaged in food manufacturing. The database by the scientists of the Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service comprises 261 of those. They include both enterprises well-known in Russia and abroad, and peasant farm enterprises, which have neither a website, nor an e-mail, making it difficult to collect and cross-check information. But such farms produce very tasty, healthy and necessary products.

“The database helps save production resources, as well as reduce energy and transportation costs. Using it, one can find an enterprise that works as close as possible to the customer throughout the territories of the Chelyabinsk Region. On the one hand, our development solves problems in logistics, and on the other hand, it compensates for costs and makes the operation of caterings more efficient,” said Olga Rovinskaya.

The development was conducted within the framework of project-based learning of Master’s students of the Department of Production Technology and Catering Organization on the topic of smart enterprises in the field of public catering. The team of authors included Olga Rovinskaya, Abduvali Toshev, Doctor of Sciences (Engineering), Professor, Head of the Department, and Anna Ilyinykh, Master’s student.
