Dual degree program

General information

On April 8th 2014 a contract was signed for academic partnership between South Ural State University and Lappeenranta University of Technology (Finland).

Now, master’s students with excellent knowledge of their profile disciplines and the English language have a chance to study abroad for the second year of the master’s program (the 3rd and 4th semesters) at the Lappeenranta University of Technology in two areas of study.

  • Software Engineering;
  • Intelligent Computing, Computer Vision profile.

The agreement between SUSU and LUT is a dual degree program and includes the writing of a master’s dissertation in English under the guidance of scientific advisers from both universities. As a result of program, the graduate will receive two international-format degrees from the South Ural State University and from the Lappeenranta University of Technology.

For participation in the program, applicants must:

  • Enter the master’s program of the School of Electronics and Computer Sciences in the areas “Technology without data” or “Techniques developing computer games”;
  • Have a high average score in area courses, preferably a “red” bachelor’s diploma;
  • Undergo an international exam and receive a certificate of English language (minimum TOEFL 80 iBT/550 PBT, IELTS Academic 6.0, PTE Academic 54, CAE or CPE level A, B or C);
  • Successfully complete an interview for the master’s program with representatives of the Lappeenranta University of Technology. 

Applications are accepted from December to February of the first year of master’s degree study. Admission is in May.

Program contents

At SUSU, students study the following profile disciplines:

  1. Mathematical foundations of protecting information and informational security;
  2. Programming in Java;
  3. Markup languages;
  4. Modern methods of software development;
  5. Object-oriented CASE-technologies;
  6. Distributed object technology;
  7. Parallel and distributed programming;
  8. Development of enterprise web applications on the Java platform;
  9. Modern techniques for developing DBMS;
  10. High-traffic web systems;
  11. Scientific and industrial practical study;
  12. Research work.

Housing and food in Lappeenranta are paid out of pocket, or you can apply for an LUT scholarship. In such case, even housing can be paid. Housing expenses are roughly 700 euro a month. LUT representatives help in searching for housing during the course of education.
