Exhibition “Book Creation. Artist's Book” at OkNo Gallery

18 February – 2 March, 2013 – Modern Art Gallery “OkNo” and SUSU Design and Fine Art Department organize the exhibition “Book Creation. Artist’s Book” of Svetlana Sukhova, Evgeniya Zinoveva and Filip Lychagin.

There are some universal things in the human culture and without these things it is impossible to live. Book is one of them. It is quite obvious that nowadays people start talking about the status of the book; how the technological progress may influence it.

Throughout the history of its existence the book was presented in several forms: from stone tablets and clay boards in the past to paper codex and electronic books today. In the modern art the book can preserve all its forms existing in various realizations: from artist’s book (livre d’artiste) to book art.

The exhibition “Book Creation” presents the artist’s books of Svetlana Sukhova, Evgeniya Zinoveva and Filip Lychagin. All the books are unique. S. Sukhova’s (J.M. Barrie "Peter Pan and Wendy") and E. Zinoveva’s (Salomėja Nėris "Eglė – the Queen of Serpents") books are drawn by hand, though one is a codex-book and the other is an object-book. Svetlana Sukhova worked out three author’s types for her book which is quite uncommon for Russian design. F. Lychagin’s collection, which includes three stories written by Ray Bradbury, is made only with the help of digital technologies – computer collages. The essential part of this collection is an interactive mediabook.

The works are different in stylistics and execution technique but the artistic aim set by the authors is one and the same thus to create an indivisible unity from the cover of the book up to the last page. Each young author found his own way of creative thinking and corresponding execution form.
