SUSU Student Complimented her Hometown Miass with Symbolic Art Object

In the square in front of the Miass railway station a sculpture of a real-sized moose has been installed. The author and executor of the project is SUSU student from Miass Maria Ivanova. As the young woman said, the idea to install the moose “from the coat of arms” in Miass appeared back in high school after getting acquaintance with history of the home region, but back then Maria could not put this idea into reality. After 4 years of studying at the university, Maria went to the Tavrida forum where she defended the project of her sculpture and won a grant of 300 thousand rubles to make the dream come true. After that, a long work over determining size and appearance of the art object and the place of its location started.

“The project supposed installation of the Wrought Iron Moose art object, performed in a style symbolizing coat of arms of the Miass city and made of a wrought metal carcass. The object was planned to be installed on the Boulevard of Peace in the center of Miass, but this location was not coordinated. Then we started searching for another place for installation of the art object and we chose the square near the railway station. The city Administration supported our idea. But the Wrought Iron Moose didn’t fit in by its composition and style. So we decided to make the art object to be dimensional. Wrought iron was too expensive, and concrete was too fragile. After a long search we decided to use composite material: a metal carcass in the middle, then fiber glass and polyester resin mixed with concrete,” said Maria Ivanova.

The art object was made by a sculptor from Vologda. The Moose made a long way, about 2 thousand kilometers, before getting to Miass. On October 10, the art object took its rightful position at a pedestal near the railway station, but the work is still going on. It is necessary to clad the pedestal and reinforce the sign plate which will tell the story of the Miass Moose. Only after that the Moose will be displayed to residents.
