The 13th Science-to-Practice Conference “KNAUF in World’s Construction Complex” Wrapped up at SUSU

For the thirteenth time, the annual science-to-practice conference "Knauf in the World’s Construction Complex" was held at South Ural State University. The event was dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of the Knauf Academy and was held online.

The Presidium of the 13th International Science-to-Practice Conference consisted of Alevtina Populova, Head of the KNAUF Training Centre; Head of the SUSU Department of Building Materials and Products, Candidate of Sciences (Engineering), Aleksandr Orlov; Nikita Kovalev, an assistant of the Director of the SUSU Institute of Architecture and Construction; Sergey Pogorelov, Associate Professor of the Department of Building Materials and Products, and the SUSU students. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss new technologies and materials by KNAUF, problems of the modern construction complex, and other topical issues.

“Initially, the conference was held as a student event, which over the years began to take on a bigger scale. Each year, we try to evoke students' interest in the new KNAUF materials, and give the opportunity to share experience with each other. At present, the international conference is already being held not only for students, but also for postgraduates and academic staff,” said Aleksandr Orlov, Head of the SUSU Department of Building Materials and Products.

In the plenary part, the participants and organizers of the conference were greeted by the Head of the KNAUF Academy of the KNAUF Eastern Europe and CIS group, Candidate of Sciences (Engineering) Elena Parikova. She noted the long-term partnership of the Academy with South Ural State University.

“We have come a long way with SUSU. Our joint work began in 2004, when we signed a cooperation agreement, but the main thing was that the interaction started actively, both in the scientific, pedagogical and academic fields. Today, KNAUF courses have been successfully integrated into the university curriculum; students develop term papers and theses that are remarkable in their content. The teaching and academic staff remains loyal and open to cooperation with the company,” said the head of the Academy.

According to Elena Parikova, the close connection of students with a production enterprise is of the particular importance, since research is not limited to literary, technical, and research parameters.

“Students have the opportunity to get up-to-date information, visit a production plant, and see how modern innovative building materials are produced. This is very important,” said Elena Parikova.

As part of the event, more than 20 students of the second and the fourth years of study from the Department of Building Materials and Products, Department of Building Technologies and Structural Engineering, Department of Building and Engineering Structures, and Department of Architecture took part in the competition for the best student report on the topic of KNAUF Building Mixtures, as well as for a scholarship from the Ural Sales Directorate of OOO KNAUF GIPS. This format of the event helps not only to better acquaint the future specialists with materials and technologies, but also to the employees of the company to receive feedback from students, their vision of the development prospects both for the company and the industry as a whole.
